I've been told they've been bred for looks and no longer smell as they used to. The carnation I remember from when I was small had a faint floral-spicy scent, and the perfume I remember was a more intense version of that scent. It was very, very nice. Even if I don't ever find it again, the hunt for it has led to some scents I like! :)
