Holidays.
It's been a longish weekend, obviously, and a pleasant one, despite the downsides. I'm back to glasses until they get contacts that will hopefully stay more in place (I could revert to the original set, but...). I had to work - I haven't tallied the times I wrote down, but it looks like I put in about 13-14 hours over the holiday weekend. I meant to get in 16, but...well, it's something, at least. I did no work on Saturday; I needed the down-time too badly, and I think I was far more effective with my time-usage the other days for having done that - and spread the time out over three days.
Now, three days of work (with less demands, as many folk are on vacation this week, though only the junior-most of my team is), two weekend days, a day of work, New Year's day (which I shall try my hardest not to work on), three days, and then back to a normal schedule.
It was a really good weekend. I got The Sims Hot Date installed, and played it, and it was much fun. I played more Everquest, which was also much fun. The new textures are really cool. I watched a DVD on my laptop, for no purpose at all except to be able to say I'd done it (seriously, the TV and DVD player were all of ten or fifteen feet away....) I discovered that a CD of pictures in the DVD/CD drive of my laptop will cause Windows to offer me the chance to play them as a slideshow.
I got salmon, and pasty (yummy pasty, now all gone!), and homemade fudge (okay, Scott got that, but he shared), and cards, and money. I found a copy of the poetry booklet from my college, which had the poem in it I wrote with Cat.
It also had a lot of evidence of how the professor who was teaching poetry at the time warped styles. My gods, we almost all sound incoherent! Imagine that. Heh.
I got my code compiling again. The framework for the export is in place. (All that's missing is, you know, the data compilation and write. But hey, we're loading it, we're just dropping it in the crapper afterwards!)
Oh, yeah. My code would also be better if I, y'know, started closing all the temporary files. Though they are temporary files, and exiting a program is one way to deal with those....
Not a very good one, tho.
Somewhere out there are a bunch of people who are eating well because of my office. And we gave enough that it will last past the immediate. Somewhere, hopefully, are some children happy because of the toys I gave.
I had the pager over Christmas weekend, and it did not once go off. It's true, it has another 9 hours or so in which to annoy me, but so far, it has been quiet. Yay, quiet.
I reread Take a Thief and most of the Arrows trilogy. *sighs* I recommend against reading them back-to-back; they were written years apart, and there are a few niggling continuity errors that rise up to bite one in the backside.... I enjoy them both mightily, mind, but they supposedly take place (the first book of Arrows, that is, and Take A Thief) all of about a year apart. Strange, how the rules about stipend changed the year Talia arrived, without pissing anyone off at all....
And it is time, and past time, for me to go get some sleep.
