Pretty morning, lots of water.

On the way to work, the wind was lashing my car, the rain was spattering against the windshield hard enough I needed full wipers at any real speed. Beautiful, beautiful rainstorm, just glorious.

The traffic reports were predictably bad. I missed most of it (I left the house at just the right time to only hear one as I got to work), but there was a semi that apparently lost control on the on-ramp to a bridge (totally blocking it - truck filled with steel - lovely way to close the interchange between two interstates...).

Speaking of too much water, there was also a building in downtown Portland which got nailed by a water main break overnight. It had six feet of water in the basement. The building is apparently set up to assume 'standing water' means 'the sprinklers have gone off', so all the fire alarms were going full blast. They're hoping to have it sorted out by noon, but meanwhile, water bureau crews and fire engines are blocking streets around that building. (It seems an over-dramatic start to a Monday, for the office workers who normally are in that building - though not as over-dramatic as if the thing had broken during the day, I suppose.)

I loved the rain; unfortunately, so far, the rest of my day bids fair to be mildly frustrating. I overplanned one dseign and now have to redo it. I need to get a CD out to a project that's still fussing over wanting to do things they can't. I'm behind on my email, I'm fighting with a new version of my debugger (this is an improvement over the previous version, I admit, which crashes under Windows 2000 - oops).

Still, it's a day. I got some useful stuff done online last night, I got to see houses yesterday. I even got to see some very impressive, if unexpected, taxidermy.

Heh. Maybe that's why today feels boring. Nah. Somehow, I can't see a moose head over the front desk. ;)
