Basta update
Went to see the vet around noon, haven't taken a break to update until now. Basta's got no appreciable accumulation of fluids since it was drained off Saturday - so either a slow accumulation indeed, the meds are helping, or both. Her heart rate was up, so they are testing now for possible thyroid issues. This could all have been caused by thyroid issues leading to heart disease. Which is not a nice diagnosis, but it beats cancer, and it's sounding a lot more like we'll have our little fuzzball for a while longer yet. I was scared. I'm concerned, but I'm no longer dread-filled. This is good.
They suggested Gerber turkey or chicken baby food, plain, as a possible other food to go with the poached chicken breasts. We'll see if Basta takes to it. Once she's put some weight back on and is feeling better (and hasn't had any for a while), I suspect she might even eat the canned food again instead of snubbing it. Right now I am just so grateful that in spite of catching this literally when it had her gasping for air, she appears to be recovering okay. She was strong enough today to object to being put into the carrier to go to the vet, even. (I'm sure she was thrilled.)
