The last 10%....

Always takes 90% of the time. Or something like that, anyway.

I mostly enjoy my job, however grouchy I sometimes get about specific parts. I like making a difference. I like designing things. I like making them work.

I hate those moments when you look at something, realize it needs to be completely redone, and realize you did it. But I'm hitting one. The routine I designed for one subsearch is simply not robust enough. :( So I have to overhaul it. The good news is that I already have a routine (in a different program and context, but still) that does roughly what is needed. The bad news is that the output is totally different and I need to figure out why it's being done that way....

And I'm tired. What a lovely combo. :) My own fault, though, and it is a lovely day out at least.

I think those moments are the payment that is extracted by the universe for all the times it's so much fun. Over the years, I've been so happy that --- except for occasional moments like this --- I have actually had to work for a living; I got to play with programming.
