Do I dance in joy, or scream in fear?

The bug I've spent most of my afternoon and evening working on? The system is now working.

Problem: the only change I made between that and the last failure, was to add error-checking code, that only went off after a fatal condition was hit.

Ummm. Confident, I'm not.

Yeah, I've been there. Add debugging statements and the problem goes away. Usually ended up being memory allocation problems or other bizarre behavior.

On the other hand, I got to go home. And just after the spontaneous-resolve but before I'd finished documenting it, my ex-supervisor called me back. We'll follow up on it more on Monday. The fact it was ongoing DID give me a chance to see a red flag (almost literally) as far as networking issues, tho. Which we've known has been there - that client has network problems - but we've had no evidence of. Our "network issues" alert that was added went off right in my face, just before the whole site went down, while I was working on the other issue.

The site came right back up. No more "network issues" flag. It was that transient.
