Various thoughts....
Went to the Gardens this morning. Was somewhat put out by a couple there who asked me to take their picture. I think of the Gardens as a peaceful place to meditate and muse, and was walking along not looking directly at any people, only plantings and the waterfall. They were clearly treating it as a tourist destination, and wanted their picture taken in front of the waterfall. I declined; I hope they found someone who was willing, but really, all I wanted to do was enjoy the Gardens (which I continued to do). I somewhat expect such things in the summer, but.... There was a pruning demonstration talk-talking too, but that was outside the Gardens while I was there, by the maintenance building. I was just glad I didn't wander thru them. Lots of people with cameras and tripods showing up as I left. I don't know what for, I am just glad I missed them. (I am surprised - there is nothing listed on the calendar about a photography class or group today. On the other hand, the Gardens don't mind tripods, they just require you not to place them off the paths or block anyone else's access. In many places the paths are narrow enough that this pair of rules equates to "don't use tripods," but in others hthey are wide enough.
On the way home, I stopped at Bimart and picked up a couple more blankets, cookies, some stickers I made the mistake of seeing, holiday cards (I think we have plenty, but these were nice), some microwave soup/hot beverage containers that are also insulated and dishwasher safe (I cared less about insulated, the 'microwave' and 'screws closed' and 'dishwasher safe' trio was what I wanted - but I'm not going to argue with 'keeps it hot for some while after' either, as long as I get what I wanted), and body art sticker paper for my printer. Yes, I'm pathetic. I'm also easily amused, which is not entirely a bad thing. Much to my amusement (and the checker's amusement, and the manager's amusement), they require you to be 18 or over to buy! No one could figure out why. The manager is looking into it because she's confused. I was annoyed only because the entire "why would they be over-18" conversation between the checker and her manager interrupted my day. They really could have gotten enough info to follow up quickly and finished ringing me up. Which eventually is what happened, but.... :P
Stopped again at Borders - I had a coupon, but couldn't use it as I wasn't sure if I had the one book I was considering getting already. Silly me didn't take a list. I did get three cookbooks (I shall probably never use any of them, but I always have good intentions), but they were all on clearance, so the coupon didn't apply. On to Costco to get gas. I was going nuts trying to remember what else I wanted. I remembered when I got home - claratin. But we have some left and I think I am going to see if I can see my doctor next week. In which case, I may or may not still be taking claratin, so I might as well wait until I know before picking up any more.
Grocery shopping. Whee. I'm pretty sure I can just leave that one at that, except to note that I forgot my list at home when I left this morning, and the only item on it I forgot was the claratin. I'm rather proud of myself for remembering allll the rest. Also, I paid the bills this morning, and filled out the rebate form for the $20 rebate on my $20 digital photography book (it's normally $29.95 but Fry's marked it down in-store so the rebate made it free - which made it worth grabbing).
At some point this weekend, I have some Eph-stuff to get done. I have a couple character concepts I'm toying with for other sites (well, one concept; and one site I'd like to have a concept for but don't) and may work on those. I'll probably roleplay, and perhaps read more of Trader. The dishes need doing, and the laundry is in progress. It's grey and cloudy and pleasantly wintry outside (for Oregon - there's nothing of snow, nor is it cold enough for same, though I know some of you have it by now!). Very pretty, really.
Also, unrelated, I've learned the Salvation Army has been banned from ringing bells outside Target stores this holiday season (Snopes confirmation that this is true). Thank heavens, pity I don't shop Target more and that I have other issues with them. I only wish I believed every other store/mall would follow suit. I have nothing against helping the poor; there are attitudes and beliefs at the SA I do not agree with, in how they handle their employees, but that's not the reason for my relief either. Plain and simple I hate those stupid bells. They are loud, shrill, annoying, they ring them incessantly and they make my head hurt. The thought of another place I can shop this holdiay season and not be given a ringing headache all too literally is filling me with holiday cheer, actually. Needless to say, I don't give them money. I don't pay people to give me headaches. I do give money to help the poor, but I give it to other organizations. I don't care to subsidize those bells.
I still haven't been down to our new Lush store. I need to manage that sometime soon. Maybe even this weekend. It's just in a bad spot as far as no parking garages - just street parking (I called and asked in case there were businesses not listed where I was searching). And I can't parallel park to save my life, so even where street parking's available, I don't use it. However, the good news is, as I check on Trimet, there's plenty of buses that get to within half a mile, one within a tenth of a mile. So all I really need to do is find a Smart Park somewhat nearby. (I'll probably just park by Saturday Market, since I see that if I'm up for a half-mile of walking each way, there's a bus straight from there - and there's a Smart Park there, plus, well, Saturday Market.) So we'll see. Tomorrow, or next weekend, if I decide to go.
