One older photo

After I scanned the first package of photos (I still haven't scanned any more, though I went through a chunk of the stack with Dad that one weekend, just reminiscing) when I found my old photos, Dad said this photo was one of his favorites of me. It's on a trip we took to Eastern Oregon, arranged through OMSI, for a rock hound weekend. We stayed in an A-frame, we dug up thunder-eggs and other rocks, we learned to cut (well, he did - I was too young and wasn't allowed to use the saw) and polish them. I still have a bucket of un-cut thunder-eggs from this trip, as I ended up with way more than I needed. Perhaps I should get them cracked or cut. There were hikes up into the hills. I think I may have gone on just one, but I'm not even sure of that - they were so long and seemed tiring, I don't know if I went at all.

I think I must have been ten or twelve or so? But I'm only guessing. Before that I think my hair was shorter.

Anyway, here is the photo he liked so: http://www.flickr.com/photos/kyrielle/275847159/

First off, "Oops! This photo is private!"

And second, what is a "thunder-egg"?

You were a blonde? My hair was blonde when I was a kid too. I don't know what happened but it was pretty much all brown by the time I got to high school. It's all grey now. :)

Looking at these old pix reminds me that these is a huge box of my dad's slides still sitting in my mom's garage. I really should start going thought those one of these days and pick some to scan.

Yeah, I looked through quite a few and saw that one. Braces too? Very cute. :)

My sister was all blond too but it's funny, only her roots have darkened. :P

I don't know why I thought I saw braces. Need to put on my glasses I guess. :)

I love love love thunder eggs, and dragon's eggs (crystlline geodes). I have book-ends made of thunder eggs, although somehow my parents lost two of them so I have a mis-matched pair. All of my major rocks are still at my parents', except the bookends, the weight just makes them too expensive to ship or take in luggage with the tight weight limits :(

But I love rocks in general and am sooo jealous that you have many still to open :) Sliced thinly they make nice window decorations if they are light enough for light to shine through. I've always wanted that but the ones I have found are all dyed and I prefer natural (except in onyx where I like both versions).
