Proposed VA law would make it a crime to fail to report a natural miscarriage, regardless of how short the pregnancy

Link from [livejournal.com profile] juliann. This is...grrr. I have no words. It's not fun reading, other than that, form your own opinions.

And some positives to counterbalance that:

I think that a lot of "pro-life" people don't realize the consequences of their political actions. While I think that law is repugnant, if the good people of VA choose to elect rabid pro-lifers, then they should reap the consequences.

That law is going to humiliate and hurt everyone equally.

Maybe some of the analysts I've heard lately are correct: the reactionary right is so full of themselves and assuming that Bush's victory is THEIR mandate that they are going to push the line too far and lose the moderate folks. It happened in the 80s, let's hope it happens again soon.

What with Dr. Dobson threatening congresspeople that HE PERSONALLY can ensure their jobs are taken away--I'd say that the RRs are RUNNING while putting all their eggs in one basket, and not seeing the bigass tree root that's going to send them into a faceplant.

Thanks for the important (but disturbing) link. The bill sounds like it has something to do with race, too (with the requirement about checking if the parent is of Hispanic origin) and this makes me all the more suspicious that someone's personal agenda is being pushed here. Seriously, thanks for helping get the word out on this.
