Patricia Briggs's Cry Wolf officially comes out Tuesday. I was at the mall today so I dropped into Barnes & Noble and (as I'd hoped) was able to pick it up. I love the accuracy of release dates. :P
I very much enjoyed this book. I like the Mercy books better, though (this is the same world, but not the same main character). This book works better if you've read the story "Alpha and Omega" (in On the Prowl) though, but it is fun. Don't read it before a) any of the first three Mercy books or b) Alpha and Omega if you plan to later read those, as it does spoiler them.
That was my half of my book glee for the summer, alas. Nothing new from Briggs now until December (a short story about David Christiansen - same universe, but yet another character) or February next year (the next Mercy book - for which there is a teaser chapter in Cry Wolf that makes me want to scream because I want to read what happens next). There's other things by other authors before then that I'm waiting for, though.
Brandon Sanderson's The Hero of Ages (book three of Mistborn) comes out in October, as does Cast in Fury by Michelle Sagara, and Tamora Pierce's Melting Stones (already out in audio book format but, while I enjoy nonfiction audio books, fiction ones don't seem to work well for me - I lose threads too easily). Jim Butcher's Princeps' Fury in November, Anne Bishop's The Shadow Queen in March 2009 (which I know too little about to be sure I'll want it), and Tamora Pierce's Bloodhound isn't due until April 2009.
So, October at least will be exciting. I just have to make it there on re-reads and finding books I haven't read yet that are already out. *wistful* I really want October's crop of books, though.
