Contacts in. Gifts delivered to the gift drive, except the hair-set(ironically, the very first item I picked up), because the sealer on the ends of the ribbons needs a few more days not to be tacky. That's okay, it has over a week, anyway.
I talked to them about the disconcertingly "general" tags, and they do switch the gifts around to match them up more appropriately to the kids. On that basis, I am going to do a few more.
I called IBM about the laptop. I will probably have to pay for the 256 Mb memory chip, but maybe not, we'll see. If I do, it's not a huge insult; I should have had to pay at the outset, if the guy handling this hadn't been an idiot. But as I said - either they let me trade my two 128's in for a 256, or, if I have to pay for the 256, they let me trade my free 128 in for the free port replicator which was my other option. One of the two. I prefer the 256, as I don't really care about the port replicator at this stage, but...one or the other, either way.
As for the update, we'll see.
Of course, Customer Support can't help with this. It has to be done by sales. And the same sales team I dealt with. I insisted on going directly to the guy's supervisor, as I won't work with the guy any more.
The supervisor's voice mail says he's out sick today. Aaaargh. Left him a message anyway. It can wait till tomorrow or the day after, but it will get dealt with, and I will not deal with the idiot who got me in this mess if I can help it.
Work, on the other hand, is going fine. *laughs* The first two people to see me, who work with me regularly, didn't say anything about not having my glasses on. At least one didn't notice - M. was surprised - out loud - when N., the third person, commented on my having my contacts in, and how long was I wearing them for at this stage.
I find this far, far too amusing. And she didn't get any work in over the weekend; took it off after the stress of Friday. And she left about three hours before I did on Friday. Now I don't feel quite as bad about "only" getting in almost-7 hours of work over the weekend, even though I had intended to do more. I probably should have done more, but it's good.
And I'm stealing more and more of M2's time from his team. He'll be on mine, eventually. In the past month, I've had all but about three of his workdays, I think, but he hasn't officially transitioned. Just got the okay from his supervisor to train him up to pager duty. Which also gives me an excuse to allocate our third "spare" laptop to him (M1 got the VP's old laptop, M2 can have the tester's old laptop, P will get mine)...I'll have an entire team which all has laptops.
Which is good. Means they can troubleshoot from home when carrying the pager; means they're useful to send on-site. Really, why we primarily equip our programmers with desktop computers, especially on small teams, I have no flaming idea.
