Whee. I got a call last night just as I was thinking of going to bed. Server-down at a client site. Oh, just ducky. Lessee, it fragmented or there's a database problem, right?

No. Real crash. Whee! Restart the system, comes up clean. Pull down the crash logs to evaluate. Crash my own laptop.

I was trying to find a file. I found it using Windows search, and tried to open the folder it was in. It didn't respond, so stupid user me, I tried again. This should not have brought down Windows.... Except for the part where I did not know, Windows XP search, by default, searches into compressed - zipped - files. So when I tried to open the containing folder it was trying to process a 200 meg zip. Apparently processing it twice was more than it could handle....

I was a wee bit freaked, but it did manage to recover and repair itself. I still need to troubleshoot the crash log, though, it was 1 am and I was zonked by the time I got the laptop restabilized. Fortunately the client-site was still stable.

Went to bed. And was woken up this morning (at 10:30, hey, I got to bed about 1:15 or so!) by another call. Same site, different problem, while I was on the phone with her about that, the server went down. Fixed the server-down, still working the other problem, which just affected one person.

In between, checking issues I'm working on here on LiveJournal. And, oh yes, doing laundry, that ever-fun Saturday past-time. (Saturdays around here, anyway.)

Despite having chunks of my day, over the course of four hours, eaten up by the work-related call (but not the whole four hours, thank heavens!), it was a good day. I did a bit of support and abuse reading and work; I read journal entries; I cleared out some of my backlog of mail; I did the laundry (okay, Scott started it - I just hauled it out and folded it).

I roleplayed. Much, much, much fun. [livejournal.com profile] dansa rocks.

And now, please pardon, I've only been up for about 14 hours (gotta love getting up late), but I'm going to go to bed anyway, I need more sleep, and I'd like to be alive tomorrow. I'm hyper and tired, if that makes any sense, so wish me luck.
