1. Do you like talking on the phone? Why or why not?

Sometimes, but generally, no. I tend to multi-task or flitter everywhere; talking on the phone socially often makes it hard to keep from getting distracted (but not always - sometimes it's nice). It's not as good a connection as talking in person. For business it works very nicely since you have an agenda (formal or not) in mind.

2. Who is the last person you talked to on the phone?

One or another of my coworkers; I forget who was the last one to call me.

3. About how many telephones do you have at home?

Three. I'll probably get a fourth for the library. They're very convenient.

4. Have you encountered anyone who has really bad phone manners? What happened?

Telemarketers I tend to hang up on if they demonstrate a total lack of respect for me or waste my time (but that is bad manners in general). I can hardly complain about people who have trouble getting off the phone as, in other circumstances, that's me. I don't really know how to answer this one because "really bad phone manners" seems pretty undefined - except perhaps for telemarketers and random obscene phone calls.

5. Would you rather pick up the phone and call someone or write them an e-mail or a letter? Why or why not?

It depends. What am I trying to accomplish, and how urgent is it? If I'm trying to make a connection, I would call or email depending on the friendship. If I were trying to get some urgent info across, I would call. If I were trying to convey a lengthy set of information that might need to be referenced later, I would email. If the two options are equal, I tend to favor email or a letter, both for the sake of later having a record and because it's easier and less prone to side-tracking (but for social purposes, where side-tracking may be just fine, that advantage is less).
