Radio commercial this morning is for Earthlink, involves a bunch of Eastern platitudes (in appropriate stereotype accent) being offered by a father to his son (who totally lacks any hint of the accent at all, instead sounding Midwestern). See, the kid's on the internet and getting annoyed at pop-ups and spam, and getting platitudes, and Earthlink's trying to sell their services based on blocking a lot of that. Meanwhile, the kid's closing line (in response to a platitude) is what got me: "Daaaaad, that's so fifth-century."

Then there was last night's dream, in which I was an airport, and there was this lady who had to print out my boarding pass. Only it was after you went through security (right there at security) that you got it. The guy in front of me got his and walked off, and then I tried to get mine. She gave it right away but it had some name that wasn't mine (the last name was short and started wtih N, I know). This despite the fact that I gave her my driver's license and my receipt.

So, I complained, and she was mortified, and gave me another one, which was another (longer) name that wasn't mine and started with an N. The first name on this one was Olivia, and I protested again. This time I got the right one and walked away, but I felt so unsafe and offended as I did so. I realized as I was taking the third or fourth step, that she had processed me as though I was travelling with the man ahead of me at first, and that had caused the confusion, or something of the sort.

I'm not sure if it's good or bad that I woke up at that point and didn't see any more of what could happen in that weird airport....

Settling in for work now. Today is going to be good, I think - pretty out, cloudy, but plenty of light. And I have the files I need to start on several tasks...even to finish one (and hopefully I'll have enough to finish more before I've gotten to that point).

...somewhat deservingly, really. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] pheon for the link to this little gem. Small quote:

Portland, OR - The school board of the recently merged Eaton and Franklin High Schools announced that 1,200 students would be laid off as part of their cost-cutting measures.

School Superintendent Marisa Fargman said, "We've got a lot of duplication among the students now that the merger is complete. Fifteen homecoming queen candidates is way too many for a district of our size, and 85 nerds is more than our jocks and preps can adequately harass."
