I'll do the weeding tonight, when it cools down. Dishes are running. I have my books from the library. I did go downtown and took my camera with, wandered around. I stopped at Saturday Market but honestly I think it's more fun on Sundays, when it's far less crowded; and it's more fun the first time or two you go. Nothing really tempted me to buy. The fried food smelled gross (which is a big score for my changing diet, really). The elephant ears didn't, but I left them behind.
Idiots With Dogs were out in force. I know it's open-air. I know there's no sign against dogs. But I honestly think anyone who takes a dog in, other than a service dog or one they can carry (and are carrying) is rude. There were quite a few canines in there, and some of them were bumping into people/straining on the leash. I was not comfortable.
That aside, the crafts and such were just...the same ol' same ol'. It amazes me some of the things that get sold there, or at least selling them is attempted. Wandered into the fountain building that benefits from having this all around them, for the first time in ages, and if the jade shop hadn't been so crowded that might have cost me some money, but it was just too much effort to see the tempting pretties.
There were street players (guitar, chanting, drums, drumming on plastic buckets - I kid you not), and general performers. And yes, the statue was back, standing frozen, staring up and off to the distance, arm half out. There was a second around the other side of the building who was less statue, more robot. He'd painted himself and his clothes a matte silver and was wearing silver-framed, reflective sunglasses. He was alternately standing still and rolling balls around in his hand, now and then shaking hands with someone or whatever.
Weird. On the one hand, I'm impressed the statue can stand that long. On the other, I so totally do not get the point of this sort of performance, and don't even find it very amusing, just baffling.
I figured it was about time to come home then. And was reminded of another drawback of Saturday Market: idiot pedestrians. Now, I am not referring to the ones crossing at the special no-light crosswalks marked for yielding and set up during the market. I may find them annoying if their timing causes me to have to stop, but they aren't idiots.
Idiots are people who wander out and stand in an active, not-closed lane of traffic, while watching something happening in the market. Needless to say, traffic got a bit "fun" at that point.
All in all, not a bad couple hours, but it never is as good as I remember. Ah, well. :)
