I went to Portland. I went to Sand in the City and then walked around. It was fun. The walking around more than the Sand, truth be told. It's always overcrowded, so I expected that. But they had some demo going on, too, and had roped off an area for it. Fine, but this was directly adjacent to the last row of sand sculptures, so you couldn't see one whole side/perspective of a couple of them very well because you couldn't get very close.

I wouldn't mind so much if one of them hadn't been organized with its "front" toward that area, with writing and all that I couldn't read.

The winner was Harry Potter themed. It was good. I think the shipwreck (that didn't place at all) was the best of the bunch. Obviously, the organizers and I have different tastes. On Sunday they will give the "people's choice" for those who voted. However, to vote costs money, so....

Took a bunch of photos. Was all the way back in Wilsonville when I remembered that I'd meant to go to the Gardens, and didn't even really regret it - I think I pretty much spent my energy and interest already, going in to Portland, and I don't really mind. The Gardens are at their worst on weekends this time of year, crowded and annoying. I'll have to pay money when I first go to get the new, lesser membership. Neither of those are strong recommendations, though I'll go at some point.

Anyway, now to figure out what to do with my day. I was not sure how long I would spend in Portland and the Gardens combined, so I debated waiting until the library opened to go. I'm glad I did not; it was very pleasant and is now rather uncomfortably warm. I think I got the best part of that....
