Well, I was going to do some sunrise photography today. However, the clouds that closed in last night were so thick this morning that there were no colors, just a gradual brightening. I did some dawn photography anyway, just to see how it turns out. Heh.

The smell of rain makes it all worth it, though. Lovely, lovely, lovely.

I went on a photography spree yesterday, simply because I still could, and it was muchly fun. (Incidentally, Dad, I can chew through a 128-meg card in 'fine' mode, in under an hour at the Japanese Gardens. Well, it still had room for four images, actually, when I pulled out of the parking lot. To be fair.) Drove around Beaverton intending to find the camera shop Dad told me about (did) and park and take some photos of downtown, possibly even stopping at the camera shop (didn't: there was a rummage sale, a memorial service that had two cross-streets blocked off with city barriers and tape and reserved parking, and a farmer's market all within about six blocks; I fled in fear).

I haven't yet gone through to see which ones turned out. I'll do that soon. On the way home, I stopped at the library and picked up the new Lindskold, Dragon of Despair. Haven't started reading it yet - in fact, I forgot it in my trunk and just had a moment of "eep" when I couldn't find it where the library books go - as there's stuff I want to do this weekend. However, I am on call this week, so sitting around with a book makes an attractive time-filler (as it does any time, really).

Today's stuff-to-do: laundry, trash, clean the kitchen, return camera to Dad, game at 3, update to-do list (sad, innit?), research cameras.

On the one hand, it looks like my 3 pm scene is not happening, since only I have showed so far.... On the other hand, waiting at home for it means I was inside when the storm broke. Much thunder starting a few minutes ago. The thunder's been silent for a bit and it's now raining - a steady rain, but light, not at all a downpour; I can see to the far side of the pasture easily, without much misting.

Playing with some of the photographs I got yesterday and this morning. Will probably a post a few up. Might even find one for the portfolio on dpchallenge but, so far, none that I'd put there. I'm far from all the way through the batch, though.

I love having a good UPS. Makes me fairly indifferent to the effects of storm. ...and, sure as anything, there's more thunder and heavier rain. Oh, this is glorious.

The world outside my window is vivid, rich, the colors heavy and thick in the stifled daylight, the heavy gold of the meadow brilliant against hte darkening grey of the sky. Jays, vivid blue-black calling jays, dart and hop from branch to branch in the old tree, half-bare some of them are as pieces of it die, looking as if it stands between two seasons as if a symbol for all around me now. The distant trees are faintly hazed, by the light rather than the air, and everything is damp in that way that touches the nose, that deepens a color, but can't quite be seen for water unless you could drift out, brush your hand over the grass or the tree to see what imparted that perfect, deep hue to it....

I've turned the music down, so I can hear the thunder, the jys, the sparrows chiding them.

I got no sunrise to photograph this morning, but on the whole, I don't mind. This is a perfect tradeoff for it. The world is going back to the seasons I like best, and here, now, this day is a perfect promise of it.
