The Thursday Threesome

Onesome: Kitchen- What's your favorite room in your place? Do you migrate towards the kitchen, or prefer to cozy up in the living room?

Amusing that it lists the kitchen, which I usually go into only when needing something from it. Favorite room in some ways is probably the library, but the one I end up in hands-down is the computer room. It has the computers, and I spend a lot of time with the computers.

Twosome: Gadget- What's your favorite gadget type item and why?

Umm. Do computers count? No, didn't think so. Really, I have no idea. I just want whatever gadget I need at that moment, and after I've used it for whatever I needed to get done, I really could care less about it.

Threesome: Store- What's your favorite store, even if you never actually buy anything there?

Depends. Normally, I'd say Powells, but I'm still snarly at them for the fact that they didn't even have one person actually letting the accumulating line of People With Books buy those books yesterday. Ahem.

It probably is Powell's, though. In some ways, Fry's is a close second, but I hate to go there unless I want something specific - as a browsing store I don't care for it in the least, really.

Things I own that no one else does. This is going to be a very, very hard meme, both because my tastes are not often that weird, and because technically Scott and I co-own all this stuff. The last question will be easier, since it doesn't involve owning stuff.

Name a CD you own that no-one else on your friends list does:

Hrrm. Hard. My taste in music is very mainstream for the most part, and where it's not, it overlaps pretty well with one or another person on my friends-list, because usually one of them coaxed me out of the easy-to-find stuff. :P If I try Tom Lehrer or the Kingston Trio, I believe my parents will match me if no one else will; and I know exactly who will laugh if I try much of anything by Suzanne Vega or Billy Joel. Or...yeah.

This reduces me to the fact that many of my friends dislike Jimmy Buffett (though I think my attempt with that one is going to fail), to things I don't actually listen to and may get rid of (which I consider cheating), or to the sorts of things you're ashamed to admit you have. :P

I'll start with Jimmy Buffett, anyway. Just in case I get away with it. Fruitcakes. The first of his stuff I ever listened to, actually, though I owned it on tape before I got the CD so it is not the first CD of his that I got. :)

Name a book you own that no-one else on your friends list does:

Hmmm. The computer-geek books, roleplaying books, and fiction books, besides being shared with Scott, are likely also owned by many people on my friends-list, as are probably a good many others. I'll take a guess that the books in Spanish and the poetry books are my two best chances here, and go with Marvin Bell's Drawn by Stones, by Earth, by Things that Have Been in the Fire (in part because a poetry book 20 years old is not likely to be in too many collections, and Bell is not as big a Name as he ought to be).

Name a movie you own on DVD/VHS/whatever that no-one else on your friends list does:

Ah. Here is where I am very, very unlikely to succeed. I don't like movies. If I stick to ones that are at least partially 'mine' and not wholly Scott's (not that we have many between us, but he gets some freebies from work and some of those might be obscure...), I don't believe I will hit anything that qualifies. Anything Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter is, for example, laughable. Balto would be likelier, but I'm pretty sure I know at least one person who has it. The Neverending Story is unlikely to qualify. Beaches or Cabaret are not movies I've ever seen discussed on my friends list, but I would be surprised if no one had a copy of them.

I know I own a few more, I can't recall 'em at the moment. Let's stop there. Maybe one of those qualify. If not, well...I'm not a movie person. :P

Name a place that you have visited that no-one else on your friends list has:

Hmm. Well, I can't count anywhere I went with my parents, since they're on the list, or Scott, or the hangouts around college. I'm going to go with Silver Falls State Park.

...which my dad has been to. Sigh. Hrm. See, I think I can get away with a number of places my job took me, but, to name the particular locations (and thus departments) is to state more about our clients than I try to here, so I don't get to use those. Hrrm. Can I get away with the Chinese Classical Garden in Portland? (Of course, I have been only once - not so very impressed - but I have been there....) Darnit. There should be more and better options, but really I cannot think of many, if any.

I give up. :P

THREE THINGS I AM WEARING RIGHT NOW

Tan pants, white shirt with a leopard on it, glasses.

THREE THINGS ON MY DESK

Laptop, glass that used to have soda in it, stuffed black cat. (Seashell with eagle carved on it, stuffed white tiger, 'nother stuffed white tiger, monitor, beanie baby cat, speakers, tons of receipts, vitamins, plush nemo and cthulhu, plush easter bunny, drawing I did of our cat Turtle, perfume, box with the origami ring, scanner.... Okay, I'll stop now. Trust me, there's more....)

THREE THINGS I WANT TO DO BEFORE I DIE

If I want to do things, I generally do them. But - go back to the Grand Canyon (I am not actually wanting to go in - I don't have the stamina or the nerves for the hike - I'd love to see it, but not do it - but I would like to stand on the rim and admire some more).

THREE GOOD WAYS TO DESCRIBE MY PERSONALITY

Hyperactive, creative, optimistic.

THREE BAD THINGS ABOUT MY PERSONALITY

Somewhat needy, stubborn, overly fond of pattern/routine.

THREE THINGS I LIKE ABOUT MY BODY

My hair is long and thick and pretty; my body's flexible and feels good (aka, fundamentally healthy/comfortable to wear, thank you - feels good to me); I like being short and fairly slender, I think I look good.

THREE THINGS I DON'T LIKE ABOUT MY BODY

Being so short and slender that it's sometimes hard to buy clothes I would like (some of that is also, of course, the fashion industry...argh!). The current skin condition, and particularly that it's my face instead of somewhere under clothing, not that the latter would make the itching happy. The fact that my eyes need so very much correction to work right.

THREE THINGS MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT ME

Hmmm. This is not easy to think of things! I fell in the fish pond before I was two years old (good thing my parents had foreseen that possibility and gotten me swimming lessons - of course, then I did not want to come out!). I spent a few of the first years of my life on a farm (not a commercial one, but still a real farm with animals raised for food). I first learned computers on a TRS 80, what I called a "CoCo" (color computer). I only played the data tapes on the living room stereo once or twice, I think....

THREE THINGS I SAY THE MOST

"(Company name), this is Laura!" Said in the chirpiest voice possible; the worse the day is, the more I counter it by trying to chirp. It helps, too. If nothing else, it cheers up whoever is calling me more often than not, which usually helps. :)

"Bloody idiot/fool." Why so often? Ahem, this is a favorite snap/snarl at bad drivers. Though I have to admit, I chose the least-strong phrasing of it.

"Adore." One of my favorite little sweet-comments for Scott, though I'm just as likely to say I'm tickling him or painting him (mostly said, not done).

THREE NAMES THAT I GO BY

Laura, Kyrielle, Firestorm. (The other names are pretty much my characters, so.)

THREE SCREEN NAMES I HAVE HAD

Stormsong (along with half the rest of the 'net at some time or another, no doubt), Jemmael, Alariel. (Okay, the last two are mush characters. Cope.)
