So, I get home last night and Drew has this mark on his right arm just near the elbow, a red rectangular area (slightly irregular) about an inch long and a half-inch wide. Which started this conversation between us:
"Did you get an owwie?"
"At day care."
"What happened?" (...already knowing Scott can probably tell me as there's doubtless an accident report...and not really expecting a clear answer from Drew, who mostly doesn't give clear answers to things like this.)
"I climbed the refrigerator."
"Oh?" (Day care rooms that have refrigerators - not sure if his current classroom does - have half-height ones built in to the counter. The shelves are deep-set enough you couldn't climb them effectively. I'm failing to envision this.)
"I fell off. Muda picked me up."
Muda's one of his teachers. "You like Muda. Did she comfort you?"
"Yeah."
"Good."
Then I asked Scott what happened. To my intense amusement, Drew's account matches the accident report, except that Muda isn't mentioned and it was a PLAY refrigerator, and it fell over when he fell off, hitting his arm. This made the entire story make a lot more sense.
It's not a very bad injury - yes, very pink, but no skin broken. I'd say he hopefully won't climb the refrigerator again, but I think that might be placing a bit too much optimism on the cause-effect recall of 2-year-old.
