I love a good county fair. The smell of things frying, be it fish, meats, or sweets, floating on the air. The growl of motors. The balloons floating in the air. The beat of some summery music. Even the standing around, just a little too hot under the sun's touch.

But not with two heavy grocery bags in my hands. Grocery bags? Oh, yes...that's not a county fair; that's the experience of standing on the corner waiting to cross the highway, while the frost on the outside of your frozen dinners slowly melts, dripping into the bottom of the bag the checker chose to put them in...along with the magazine. Oh, well. It's only a little wrinkled.

And it was a nice daydream, standing on that corner. And no one tried to run me over when I finally got the light to cross, either. (Don't laugh: by the way the right turn lane moves at that corner, you'd think it was illegal to make that turn on a red light!)

Then I got home, and set myself to the prosaic task of doing the dishes. Which mostly involves loading the dishwasher, with things that aren't too crusted or dirty, as it's a pretty good dishwasher. I deferred everything that had to be handwashed until tomorrow. At least.

And then I went to put the soap in. Apparently, someone in this household (oh, fine, it was me) put in a plate or two with a bit of salad still stuck to it. And some of those bits, being loose, fell off.

Into the soap tray. Now, I'm not entirely sure, but I don't think lettuce is a dishwashing detergent approved by the manufacturer of my machine.

So I got to remove all the lettuce, then start the dishes. But I'm proud of me: I will actually have something to serve my meals on and in tomorrow!
