Survey, borrowed from someone else. Mind you, I don't answer a couple of the questions, but I included them for completeness in case anyone borrowed it from me and wanted 'em. This one's a LiveJournal survey, about your interaction with LJ.

1. Your LiveJournal username:
Kyrielle

2. Explain what it means:
It means that I'm tired of the overdone net-handle I used in my teens, "stormsong", but that I don't actually have a better name handy. The first three I tried (because they sounded pretty) were all taken, and this one wasn't. But it's just something I thought sounded pretty; if it means more than that, I'm clueless.

3. Explain how you picked / why you selected the user picture(s) that you have?
I'm still trying to figure out my pictures. My current default is a picture of me, a bit soft, and the favorite of my digital images of myself so far. It has a dreamerly quality that I think suits me, a bit. I had a 'ponytail' and 'annoyed' pic that were efforts to get a crisper shot of me, but I didn't like them as much and I've removed them. The two kittens are kittens from my parents' house that I found really cute and wanted to showcase. I may or may not keep both of them over time but until I work out more pictuers for myself, having them isn't hurting anything. ;)

4. Details
-- Date of survey: - Feb 23, 2002
-- Account type: - paid through August and planning to renew
-- Friends (#): - 61 (counting communities; 43 of those are users, rather than communities)
-- Friends of (#): - 43
-- Communities (#): - 9
-- Memories (#): - 132 (many of which are private, some public)
-- Journal entries: - 1,131 (will be 1,132 when I post this) - be scared!
-- Comments posted: - temporarily unavailable while clustering goes on. I remember it was always higher than my comments received because I talk too much! :)
-- Comments received: - 661 if that's still accurate with clustering (I would assume so).

5. Why do you have a Journal page? Do you have a Journal page for yourself, your friends, strangers to know you, and/or everyone?
Something of all of those. Mostly, I have a journal page because after my friends pointed out online services to me, I realized I could journal all my thoughts and feelings and share them with my friends - at least, those who wanted to know. It also lets those who want to avoid stuff opt out, which paging and IM'ing them didn't so much. ;)

6. Why did you pick LiveJournal over another service or handwriting?
Well, I first started at OpenDiary. And I resisted coming to LiveJournal, because I didn't like the 'read people backwards' (and I don't). But way too many of my friends from other online places were here. So I started over here. And then I discovered client programs. And user pictures. But mostly client programs. Oh, and not having to figure out what was new on each of your friends and have that data reset with each login. And.... Anyway, I eventually got used to the read-backward thing. (I really wish I could get it to list forward, like it does in day-view, in the friends view...even if it was a 'day-friends' view...but it works as it is.)

7. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest) how well does your LiveJournal represent who you actually are?
Hmmm. About 8, if you can see the private entries. I think it's closer to 6 for my friends (depending on what groups they're in), and maybe 4-5 for others.

8. How do you think your LJ represents you ...
(Numbers are: public/friends/if you're me)
-- Factually: - 7/9/9.5
-- Emotionally: - 8/9/10.
-- Intellectually: - 5/6/7. I'm lazy about posting this sorta thing, mostly.
-- Sexually: - 2/4/6. I'm not that sort of exhibitionist, to post things like that in my journal. There's not even anything steamy in the private entries, though there're little comments here and there.
-- Religiously: - 4/4/7. I'm not sure. I don't try not to put religion in, I just don't have much to say on it.
-- Artistically: - 6/6/6. Okie, so I don't post a lot of my writing-work. Let alone pictures. Oh, but I do share my photography, which I hope counts.

9. How much about your life do you post to LJ?
Quite a bit. I post a lot; the bits and trivia of my workday make it in (as most people reading this are likely to know!). How I spent my day is often a topic. What frustrated me. What made me happy. Thoughts and musings on the news, links to pictures, etc. The fact that I'm house-hunting. On the other hand, I don't post my address, my love life, etc.

10. On a scale of 1-10 how interesting do you think your own journal is to others?
I'm not sure, honestly. I find it interesting because I'm all buried in it, but I'll guess maybe 4-6 depending on who you are, other than me.

11. From whom/how did you find out about LJ?
Lots and lots of friends on a site I was on. I think [livejournal.com profile] cadhla mentioned it to me first, although it might have been [livejournal.com profile] ohimesamamama.

12. Has anyone ever joined LJ because of you?
Yep! I lured my dad over to it, even. Plus another friend. I gave them both invite codes, so I'm sure I brought them aboard. Not sure about other people - I talked to some who ultimately got codes from another friend, but I don't know if I affected their decisions.

13. How long have you been a member of LJ?
Since August 8, 2001. I have back-dated entries before that, that I brought over from OpenDiary and from my paper journals, but don't let that fool you. ;)

14. How often do you post to LJ?
1,131 posts, most not backdated entries. Heck, attribute 131 to being backdated stuff (might be more, might be less, oh well). I've been a member for about 200 days. So an average of 5 posts a day. Heck, make that four, I hate to think I write that much, blame it on the backdated stuff. ;) It's very irregular, though. I might post just once or twice in a day, or I might post 10 entries. (Usually, if it's that high, some of them are private notes to myself - news events or the like.)

The most entries I've ever made in one day was 26, made on Thursday, October 25, 2001. I had a couple bad moments that day dealing with friends, plus there were some interesting news articles, so more than half of those (WAY more than half of those) are private, and about half the remainder are friended at various levels.

15. What proportion of your posts are friends only?
Just looking at the past two months: About 18%. Mostly, this is work-stuff that shouldn't be public, or other things I just want to share with friends; I would guess that maybe a quarter of that is friended to smaller groups than all my friends.

About 22% of my stuff is private in those two months, most of it being either inspirational workouts (I got a "Don't Sweat The Small Stuff" daily calendar for this year, and through most of January, managed to do writeups of my responses to the pages...then I sort of gave up ;), or news-related stuff for my future reference.

16. What is your favorite interest on LJ?
Sorry, don't have a favorite interest.

17. What is your favourite community on LJ?
[livejournal.com profile] lj_support, for the moment. Sad statement? Perhaps, but I like helping out.

18. Have you ever learned anything new on LJ?
Oh, YES. Friends share recipes, life lessons, poetry lessons (many of those!), bits and tidbits of their day...I'm learning all the time, from my friends, from posts in the communities, from ther places. Things about LiveJournal, things about html, things about life.

19. Has anything on LJ ever caused you to establish, rethink, or even change your belief or position on something?
Yes.

20. How often do you respond / comment on other peoples journals?
Not as often as I did at first. I do when I have something to say - at first, I commented just to get a dialog going, before I realized this community mostly doesn't work that way (OpenDiary did).

21. Do you prefer to write in your Journal, read other Journals, respond to others entries, or get responses to your entries?
All of the above. I like writing. I like reading. Specific formatting is secondary.

22. What's the longest you've gone without posting to LJ since the day you signed up?
Ummm. *blush* Well, I didn't actually post on August 8, 2001 (the day I joined). And I didn't post on November 17 or December 9 of that year either. Which is to say, only one day without postings at a time....

23. What's the longest you've gone without reading LJ since you discovered it?
A couple months. I really, REALLY disliked it when first introduced, and basically sulked at all my friends here for being so rude as to pick a journalling service I (at the time) disliked. ;)

24. What is your favorite post you've ever made to LJ?
Depends. What's my mood and the time of day? If you're curious, check out my memories; most are of other people's entries, but a few personal ones are present in the "family & friendship & love", "humor" (but all the entries there overlap with f&f&l), and "inspirational & upbeat" categories.

25. What is your favorite post you've ever read on LJ?
Sorry, not picking favorites. Some that I've really liked are in my memories, but others either aren't or (because they are friends-only for the person or the like) are private memories.

26. What's the weirdest or funniest thing you've seen on LJ?
Some of the online tests; the Very Secret Diaries; my style when I first trying to make it work. (It didn't, at that point.)

27. Have you ever specifically asked a question for people to reply to in your Journal?
Several times.

28. Have you ever tried to play the "trace yourself back through friends from a random LJ user"?
Nope.

29. Have you ever played the "add a sentence to my post" game?
No.

30. Have you ever lied / fibbed in your journal?
I don't think so. I certainly don't intend to do so. Omitting details is another matter, of course; I like being on display, but only so much. ;)

31. Have you ever had something mean said to you or been stalked, harassed, or got into an argument/flame war on LJ (or did it to someone else)?
Unfortunately yes.

32. Have you ever banned someone from your Journal?
Yes, but only another account of mine that was being used for testing purposes, to stop myself posting replies to people's replies to me from it. :P

33. Has LiveJournal had any significant impact on your life?
Yes. It makes it easier to stay in contact with and feel connected to my friends - the ones who are here, at least. It makes a nice venting space. And I don't lug around as many various journals, any more. ;)

34. Who are your favorite LJ friend(s) and why?
Not playing favorites. If you're on my friends list, you're there because I like to read you, and I'm interested in what you have to say. Period. Some of it's humor, some of it's serious stuff, musings on life, poetic stuff, day-to-day...whatever. I am not going to try to compare.

35. How many of your LJ friends are your friends in real life?
I think 5, counting my dad. Maybe 6 Depends on how you measure it. I knew 5 of them (from more than just online) pre-LiveJournal; only my dad, of my friends-list, lives in the state. Went to college with two of them.

36. How many of your LJ friends have you actually met?
7. And 6 of them, I met before I was on LiveJournal.

37. Have you ever emailed or IM'd someone you found on LJ?
Yep. Not often, but I have. (Of course, I work support. I tend to pester [livejournal.com profile] leora with questions. So maybe that doesn't count? :)

38. Of all of the people on LJ you know of, who is the most like you?
Not sure. I identify with lots of people, in different ways.

39. Who is the most intelligent or insightful person you know on LJ?
We're back to "not going to play comparison games".

40. Who is the most fun person you know on LJ?
Ditto.

41. Who is your least favorite/most annoying LJ user or community?
No comment. I'll give you a hint: I don't put things that annoy me on my friends list. And once they're off it, who cares? Not my problem. :)

42. How do you usually find new friends on LJ?
If someone adds me to their friends list, or puts a comment in my journal, I'll check them out and maybe add them. And now and then I browse my friends' friends lists, and find someone cool there. I don't use random, since mostly it leads to journals that have nothing in common with me. I tried interest-browsing, but it seemed a bit - haphazard. Still, that is how I found a couple people, before I gave up on it. I check the journals of people whose posts in communities I read particularly interest me as well.

43. Why are you most likely to add someone to your friends list?
Stuff I'm interested in. Either the content of their journal, the tone of it, or something makes me interested in reading it. There's some spark there that makes me want to know what they'll say tomorrow, or next week.

44. Do you automatically add friends to your journal if they add you first?
No. I do automatically go look at their journal (when I notice, which can take a while), but I don't automatically add.

45. Do you care if someone adds you to his or her friends list if you add him or her first?
Nope. Well, yeah. It's cool if they like reading me as much as I like reading them. But it's not mandatory, and it's not personal. It's likelier I'll start to think of them as a friend if they find me interesting enough to read, but I'll still enjoy reading them and be quite content if they don't read me in return.

46. Are there any people's Journals (users / friends), communities, interests, or searches you frequent on LiveJournal that you don't or will not list in your user info page?
Hmmm. "Do you have any secrets you want to divulge?" No comment. ;)

47. Is your Significant Other on LJ?

48. Other than your S.O., who are you the most attracted to on LJ?

49. Who is the sexiest person you know on LJ?

50. Have you ever fantasized about someone on LJ?
No comment. Can we finish with these already? :)

51. Would you want to know if someone on LJ fantasized about you?
Umm. Maybe. Probably not. Unless they were going to become a stalker, and I needed the warning.

52. Would you date someone you met on LJ?
Maybe, probably not. It's not a bad forum for meeting people. On the other hand, I'm not looking for a new relationship, either, thanks. ;)

53. Have you ever wanted to meet someone on LJ?
As friends? Yes.

54. Have you ever actually met someone from LJ romantically and hit it off?
No and no.

55. Have you ever posted a naughty picture / post / story on LJ?
Not that I can recall, no. If I did, I promise you it would be private. ;)

56. Do you prefer to post from a Client or the Web Interface?
Client. Client, client, client, client.

57. Do you use HTML to add extras to your entries?
Yes. (I will refrain from making this blink, scroll, appear in hot pink, etc. I try to use my HTML nicely. :)

58. Is your LJ page customized (at all - even from template), template, or default?
Yes. I made a custom style. If I can get the last hints of cyan out of the source graphics (which is not done because I have been lazy, not because it is hard), I might submit it to them as a public style. Except I would sort of want the images hosted on their server if that were done, not mine. I'm using a modified notebook that I think is a lot nicer. At the very least, it's color-independent.

59. Do you usually use the WinAmp music detector, add your music manually, or none at all?
I add my music manually, except I usually forget, now.

60. How well do you know the LJ features and how to use it?
Pretty darn well. I'm weak on a number of areas of customization (I didn't wait long before getting a paid account, and prefer to tweak my style, rather than submit overrides). But I know most of the rest of the ins and outs pretty well; I work support, after all. I even know features I have never ever had to use. Lucky me. ;)

61. What is your favorite LJ feature?
I like the whole site. It's very hard to say "this feature is the best". I suppose the ability to post my journal entries and let others read them, since without that, it would be a very silly and useless site. ;)

62. What is your least favorite LJ feature (one that you would change or delete if you could)?
The invite codes - but I wouldn't change them without due consideration for the need for them. Fortunately, they're temporary, and from the recent [livejournal.com profile] lj_biz post, here, it looks like they may even be close to gone at this point.

63. What feature would you most like to see added to LJ?
The ability to read your entries, and friends pages, in the forward direction. (Go ahead and start me at the most recent 20 - but put the very most recent at the bottom of the page.)

Other things I'd like to see added:
1. The ability to, if you enter a mood that's not in the standard list, choose one of the "standard" moods to pick the icon you'd get.
2. The ability to find posts you've commented on (even if all you could say was "find all the posts by user such-and-such in some-specific-month that I commented on").
3. The directory back, vaguely. I came to LiveJournal after it was shut down, but it tentatively seems like a neat thing.

64. What moods would you like to see added?
I guess "bemused" and maybe a couple others, but see my "other things" entry #1 on the previous question. It would sort of remove any need I see for more moods. The full gamut is there, just not tied to the specific text I want, generally. ;)

65. "One day the directory will work again." How long until you believe until that day will come?
No estimates. No clue.

66. On a scale of 1-100, rate the LJ for convenience, usefulness, and coolness factor
Convenience: 99 (probably less for free accounts, though).
Usefulness: 85. It's good for keeping in touch with friends and myself, and learning things.
Coolness: Um. Coolness? 95. It's a nifty thing, and I love it, but I'm not sure if it counts as "cool" as that word is usually applied (spiffy high-tech new popular gizmo toy). Still, I'll give it a high rating. I like it.

67. How many other surveys have you done on LJ?
No clue. Too many.

68. How does this survey compare to those?
Um. I have no idea.

69. Do you think this last question was added solely to get to this number or not?
*sighs* Actually, now I think the previous two were as well. ;)
