You know, a lot of people commented how stressful house-hunting is (though I don't know if anyone did on LiveJournal), when we started looking. Actually, it was fun, and funny at times (moose heads!).

And it really underscored to me how well-matched Scott and I are. If you meet us, we're such opposites. He's quiet, with a wicked sense of humor, and very calm and unflappable. I tend to be confused by many jokes, and I'm quick with my temper or my laugh, easily stressed, easily confused.

When we got together in college, people said we'd never last. And I thought they were probably right, but I didn't care; I liked him, and I wanted to see where it went. Where has it gone?

Here. Where we share an apartment and never argue about the state it's in; where we get along with each other easily, and fiddle to trade off the chores we know the other one doesn't like.

I'd say we were better suited than we realized, and the entire house hunting experience has only underscored that. We didn't always agree completely, but our "no's" and "maybe's" were all the same. We differed a little in ranking some of the iffier maybes, but the truth is, none was really what we were looking for; we were differing on ranking irrelevant things.

I really liked the first house we saw in Oregon City, and wanted to see it again. He thought it was okay but wasn't sure of it, as I understood it - but it was furnished; he had trouble seeing our furniture where the current residents' fancier stuff was. I've always been good at 'stripping out' things from an image - like, say, all the furniture - in my head.

He loved the first one we saw in Wilsonville; I wasn't as sure of it.

Then the one in Oregon City was off the market, before we could decide if we wanted it. Well, if we'd loved it, we'd have offered sooner; I'm sorry, but no more than that, if that makes sense. We saw all the other candidates again, and settled on the one in Wilsonville (which actually looked better on a second viewing). And I commented to Scott, "This was your favorite, wasn't it?" It had been my second-favorite, and the first might have been knocked out by road noise (but neither of us is particularly troubled by road noise, I must say from experience). I liked the idea of Scott getting his favorite, but he said no, actually, the Oregon City one had been - though he thought he liked this one better, looking at it again.

So we did agree. Because...I liked this one better, looking at it again, too.

We have such common tastes and interests, even if our personalities are so different. It's kind of nice to be reminded of that.
