Normally, our alarm goes off at 6:30 and I get up at 7:00. Why the delay? Because I wake up better in stages. If I hope straight out of bed the instant I'm snapped awake, I tend to be groggy, grumpy, and generally less "together". If, on the other hand, I smack snooze (or let Scott do so) and go back to sleep for a bit...well, after a few rounds of that, I'm awake. Waking up gradually/in pieces works well for me, it's a very relaxing and comfortable way to start the day. Yeah, it's an indulgence that takes up a half hour of my morning, but it's a well-spent half hour.

This morning, the pager also went off at about 6:30, a little after, I think. Since the alarm had already gone, I was half-awake; the pager snapped me awake and I grabbed it, smacked a button to shut it up, grabbed my glasses, and headed downstairs so as not to disturb Scott. I was already wide awake; the pager, unlike the alarm, may not be slept through, after all.

I was about halfway down the stairs when my brain caught up and protested that the sound had stopped even before I hit the button, and that the sound, while decidedly my pager, hadn't been quite right for a page. At all.

Pause. Squeeze the button that turns the light on. Glare.

I had been awoken and deprived of my sleep for a low battery warning.

I went back upstairs, crawled into bed very irritably, and curled into my quilt. Yes, I then slept till almost 7:30, but I am functional right now, despite the stupid pager. So it was arguably worth it.

Yes, my morning's a bit more rushed than usual, but I still have time to write here, I just don't have time to read all the various web pages I normally do.

Which I guess, just proves I really like leisurely mornings in general.

Stupid pager.
