And I didn't even have to be. Twice now, I've tried to do this database work from home. And twice I've failed: the connection didn't work. I was able to get on earlier today, so I came into work, thinking it was the VPN/firewall thing screwing me up (to connect, I have to be inside the company firewall - from home, I use my VPN connection - and this has had difficulties in the past).

Nope. Can't connect here either. So I called the client, and they're looking around to see if they can find the director's documentation that he supposedly sent to all of them on how to restart the connection program.

I had to climb the "do not use except as emergency exit" back stairwell to get in, since my key only works in that door, and I may still not get to do anything useful. Argh! I was just glad they hadn't rekeyed the door, which it had occurred to me they might do to discourage us from using it as an entrance. Fortunately, while I can't come in the side door (the key doesn't work), I can at least go out it. I've had a request in for a front-door key for a while, but everyone else in my office is pretty casual about that back stairwell.

When I hear the landlords are concerned about cracks, water getting to the metal supports, rust, and collapse, it bugs me. Are they being over-cautious? Oh, almost certainly: they don't want any risk of getting sued, of course. Nonetheless, it does not make me want to use those stairs. Gah.

So I've been waiting for a callback, waiting, waiting, doing nothing, waiting. Blah. If I have to put this off again...it's getting annoying, is what it's doing. And worrisome. The disk space keeps shrinking, and I want to get the database off to the larger disk, darnit. I may have to do this during non-optimal hours, or have the directory show up off his hours, if this connection won't stay up. And I don't care for that idea at all. Fooey.

...ahhh! They got it up. I came to work uneessarily, but at least I can get this done.
