The shelves tried, but I won. Thanks to a bit of timely advise from Dad, I knew I was okay even after I damaged the veneer a bit (I wasn't sure it wasn't structural damage), and indeed, it's Just Fine. The next step of my instructions calls for attaching it to a stud. I'm figuring I should not do that until Scott's seen it, since if he doesn't like it in the library, it will go to the garage, and unattaching it from a stud sounds like a pain-in-the-rear.

Not too much damage. My nerves are a bit taut, and I scraped a bit of paint off the wall at one point (NOT in an area that will be covered, grrrr). Broke a thumbail, scraped the thumb a bit at the same time, and then hit it with a hammer.

I think I have something in for that particular thumb but, since I didn't hit it hard enough for it to bruise up, I'm gonna count myself lucky. Everything else can be fixed with a pair of nail clippers. :)

Now to go glue some veneer back in place.... LOL.
