Drove up to visit friends today - a good drive, that one, I'm glad the weather was mostly cooperative. (It rained hard enough for a good 10-15 seconds on the way back, that I actually dropped in behind a semi willingly and cut back to his speed limit instead of mine.... Other than that, it was clear.) It was really beautiful. Dramatic clouds sometimes, others not. Sunshine sometimes, over the new green of spring.
The visit was excellent, just hanging out and chatting - I quite enjoyed, I hope they did also. A bit of time was spent restraining their child's urge to climb up and lean out of windows.
Which made it really unnerving when, as I was getting ready to leave, I had to delay because there were a pair of police cars, a fire truck, and then a medic unit there - their neighbor in the next apartment over, her girl had fallen out the window. Fortunately (and despite it being a second-story window), the girl had fallen well and had just a scratch, but....
...yipe. Bad thoughts, that. *shivers* Glad it came okay, but wow. Just wow.
Stopped on the way back at the bookstore, and picked up Cold Fire, the latest Tamora Pierce book out in paperback. What can I say but that I like these things? Very, very very fun. And as the third book in the second series about these characters, not a good choice to quote from unless I know the listener's read most of them at least.
