Mostly a day. Dad came over to borrow a book and also let me show off my new camera in brief. It was good to see him again; I ought to see about a visit the other direction...sometime after I'm not on the after-hours phone again. Which ends Monday! Yay!

Of course, he came by at 7 because I'd been worried I might not get out of work before that. Hahahaha. So, instead, I finished everything I could do at that point on a critical task at about 4, and was trying to decide what I would do after I finished updating the report on it. I wanted to come home after 8 hours, but it was still early and so much to do.

Then the report I was updating went pfffft and vanished as the network went down. I ran down the list of things I could do without the network and came square up against not much of importance, so I packed up and left after all. Got home just by 5 even with the time it took to confirm the network was out, double-check my task list, etc.

I could've stayed for it to come back, but symptom-wise this looked a lot like the two times we had issues last week. Both of those outages lasted hours - and I had no critical tasks and had put in a full day. Right, door, beckoning.

Nothing useful has gotten done since I've been home. Reread Oath of Gold - parts of it, anyway - and then the ending of Coelura. My brain seems to mostly be in the off mode this evening but I'm not tense, I got out of work earlier than anticipated (and for cause, sorta), and I had enough sleep last night. So this is not bad. :)

I got Exile's Honor from the library and finally read it. As long as I firmly instructed my brain to ignore all other books in series, I was fine, and I loved it. Except for one thing.

Myste.

Who is an author-insert Mary Sue. Totally blatant; I mean, look at the name! Besidess, she's admitted it.

This almost destroyed the book for me. Because I was filled with rage every time Myste came on-screen, as it were.

And the sad thing is...if she had just chosen a different name, and kept her yap shut...I would have loved the character. Objectively, I suppose I do anyway. I love the thought of a Companion chosing someone who flat out isn't qualified at all to be a circuit-riding herald, because there is a Job to be Filled.

But I just can't get past the fact that she's a damn Mary Sue, because it pisses me off.

It makes me wanna go throw something at Lackey, to be honest. >.<

Anyway. Wanted to vent, and you're the only person I know besides me who reads her (that I know of), at least the only one who doesn't still idolize her. The rest of the people I think might read her are a wee bit too young still. :P
