just buy replacements for everything I take, and just leave the damn bag packed
This is exactly how I handled call supplies when I was subject to overnight call, and is still how anach and I handle our convention-going toiletries. We just keep a complete set packed as our travel set, and leave our regular ones home. Means we don't forget anything when leaving home, and if we leave something behind when we're away we have until our next trip to replace it.
