Good scene tonight (I'm on call, but the person was warned, and the odds of a call are really fairly low these days, on the secondary phone that is what I have this week). And I also finished In the King's Service.

This is Kurtz at her best, or nearly so. I loved it. I hated it in places, too, as is the hallmark of a good book she's put her fingers in - what? Then what? You can't kill--- argh! Yes, yes she can. Yes, yes she did. Argh.

But oh, some of the stories and tales...I do not like a particular character that you would think would be sympathetic. He is not, not at all, though those who succeed him in the timeline very much are.

It's still strange to see characters you've known as grown men or women as babes or children, and those you've known mostly as history in the strength of their youth.

And she did it beautifully.
