I've just finished reading this, the latest Tamora Pierce book. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] olna_jenn for letting me know when it was out - I'd still be in the hold-list at the library, else.

Incredible book. Wonderful book. NOT FAIR. Because it's the conclusion of the series, and I don't want to be done with it yet. But oh it is a wonderful book. (Though to enjoy all the moments in it, you really should read the other three series that come first, of course....)

I need my sleep, now. Been reading that book for three days (due to doing other things such as roleplaying, as well).

The house is being painted. It's the middle-dark-green. It started today (not counting samples). I was not at all sure of this color but it was the only one of the three they approved. I find it ironic that it's probably about as dark as our second-choice color the first time around, which they skipped because it was too dark. I saw the new color in the evening light as I came home. I'm hoping it looks better in full light or that I come to like it as I come less and less to expect that blue when I get home. The blue grew on me until it pleased me greatly to see it. I do not like this new green and I am hoping I can learn to, but it's a nasty sort of oliveish thing when put on in any quantity.

I hate this neighborhood. I hate these people making painful games of my life. I wish we still rented. I should never have listened to people who encouraged me to want to own my own house. Very few of the positive points matter to me, and the rest of this is upsetting enough that I really wish we'd just found a better-laid-out apartment to replace the townhouse that really did not have the floor plan we needed. If they are going to dictate those sorts of things, they ought to have to do the work and claim ownership.

I hope you are going to post some pix of this when it is done, it sounds like a color that I would like... but also one that Robin would absolutely hate. LOL!

I couldn't live in a place like that where you had to ask permission before doing anything to your house. We just decided to have our house sided and it was nice to just pick what we wanted and not have to worry about the neighbors.

Owning a home is still a lot better than renting though, at least you get to build equity and have something to show for it. Real estate is still one of the better investments. Perhaps you picked the wrong place to own but you could always change that.

Sorry to hear about your disgust with the neighbourhood... :-(
