This morning was 39 degrees when I went out. I didn't care for that since I had not dressed for it but the car warmed up soon enough, and it was gorgeous. Foggy, a low-lying pretty fog that thoughtfully stayed not-too-thick until I got to work, so that it was not a driving issue. It closed in around us at work around 8 am, only for ten minutes or so, very dense and making the whole world shadowy...gorgeous.

The skies are grey and the air ranges from brisk to cold. There's speckles and spatters and showers of water when it's not outright raining or pouring. There's eddies of water on damp pavement, and leaves in yellow and brown and still-green fallen, and the smell of fresh-fallen leaves, indescribably itself, utterly autumn. There's the grey of woodsmoke drifting, its scent faint but steady on the air, in the afternoon. There's the bright red of the Crowne Plaza sign seen through muting fog.

There's the wind that lifts your hair and flirts with it a moment before whisking off to chase the leaves.

There's the evergreens and the half-bare trees and the bushes turning brilliant red; there's the green of grass and the yellow of the fading tree. There's the birds calling to each other as they fly.

It's fall. It's fall and it's Oregon and it's home and it's beautiful. Today was gorgeous.
