I have a new laptop. I think I'm gonna love it. The keyboard layout is (of course) different from the last laptop I had (I wish these things were standardized), but I'm already growing used to that and I've only had it for one day. It's not a top-of-the-line anything but a nice serviceable little beast to replace the nice serviceable beast before it. I use my laptop for web browsing, email, and mushing, so it's not like I demand a lot from it. (I also used the old one for photo processing, but I may switch that functionality to the desktop, honestly.)
Nice, shiny, toy. I like the fact that this one has a battery that works (the old one wouldn't charge) and wireless (the old one predated that being standard). I can hang out online from the back deck if I want, now.
I've also switched to using Semagic. They've fixed my main objection to the program, sometime between the last time I tried it and now. You can now set up the tab order so you can move between the subwindows in a logical, usable fashion. (They haven't fixed the major nuisance problem that was my second issue, but as noted, it's a major nuisance, rather than making the program unusable as the tabbing, for me, did. Namely, when you press alt, the W for the Web menu is underlined. This would suggest that alt-W opens the web menu (which is what it did in the original Windows client, which I liked the UI on but which had become quite dated in options). But it doesn't. It opens a "wrap with tag" feature that I find utterly useless. I don't suppose anyone knows a way to turn this key binding off and restore access to the web menu?)
Meanwhile, my Dad was out yesterday. He dropped off Jane Lindskold's new book, Wolf Hunting. I blame my getting to bed two hours late last night on him, as a consequence, and I am very grateful for it. VERY good book (latest in a series). I want the sequel about five minutes ago, though. :P He took home with him a Mother's Day card for my mother, from Scott and I; she hadn't come out when he stopped to drop the book off. I called her today and wished her a happy mother's day that way, too; it sounded like she was having a nice relaxed day, no bad thing for mother's day, I don't think. :)
