More posts in [livejournal.com profile] lj_biz clarifying things and beginning to address some of the issues raised. I suspect it will be most of this week, maybe longer, before they're done with that process (assuming they don't try to address the absurd or raving ones, which seems likely).

I'm not sure who was involved in the decision(s) that led to this being implemented with pieces (like the separate icon, which was said to be planned but not there) missing, then announced to the userbase with a last-minute post that was, well, almost designed for maximal explosive value, etc. It looks like a thought-out strategy and actual slow planning process are going on now, which at least makes it likely that these decisions will be implemented (unless replaced by a better idea, but whatever).

I still think the sponsored community idea is somewhat stupid, but they're at least beginning to work on fixing the broken stuff. Getting the icon wholly unique would be a good start, but I'm sure it will take them a bit to pick a new one.

Some people on my friends-list have been screaming. Others have said it's stupid to fuss over. I think it's somewhere in the middle. It is an unfortunate change, and it was presented to us very badly. I think the way it was presented, and the talking-down-ness of telling us we'd love it, and phrasing it in marketing-fuzzbrain-speak, was much worse than the actual thing, and made the disgust/disinterest/irritation (and in some cases, apparently, fear) reactions much much stronger simply because of the feeling of being patronized and/or told we oughta love it.

Badly handled initially, getting better now. At this point my greatest irritation is with the people who are repeating all their demands/questions to every post, in spite of it being clearly marked that more information will continue to follow as things are decided. Hasty decisions and / or lack of communication apparently got them into this hole - kudos to them for now being careful (even as folks who were angry at them for not being careful, are now shrieking at them for taking too long to address one or another pet point).
