Rain and high winds tonight. Already we're at 25mph with gusts higher; forecast is 40 mph gusting to 60. The power has flickered violently, then gone out, once. It took my desktop out - I need to replace the UPS or split the hardware. It overloaded. So much for those web pages! (The desktop has been booted back up, checked over, and shut down for the moment.)

Tomorrow is garbage pickup for our neighborhood. About 1/4 to 1/3 of our neighbors set their garbage out tonight, as most of us normally do Sunday nights. ...ummm. That should be just GREAT.

I haven't had much luck with books lately. Lackey's Aerie, which I'd hoped would be about as good as the other three in the series, was - until it took a right turn that wasn't at all telegraphed or similar to the rest of the world, and hopped into an alternate universe (it sounded like something written by another author - I have a particular one in mind but identifying said author would almost certainly be a spoiler). Argh. I picked up Catalyst purely because it was by Nina Kiriki Hoffman, and...I don't know which is worse, the story itself or the fact that it ends in the middle of things, sort of. Not very - I'm not sure. Believable? Something. First Hoffman book I've read that I have disliked, that I can recall. And I know I've read something else recently that disappointed, but I can no longer recall what it is. Hopefully I won't get it from the library again later and reread it in a fit of utter stupidity!

Catalyst was VERY unusual for Hoffman, I agree. Definitely an experiment with mixed results. But I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt.

Spirits that walk in Shadow was much better. :>
