Today while visiting my parents, I saw what we believe is a juvenile hawk. Dad has seen it several times - it comes to the bird feeder and perches on the support. Oddly enough, the birds that normally use that feeder all make themselves very scarce when that happens....

I had my camera with me in the room (I don't on many days!) by chance, so I got it out and got several pictures before he took off. (Dad almost managed to go get his camera and come back for shots, but the bird took off just as he got back. Oops.)

Unfortunately, the lighting is lousy and the bird's hard to see in the photos, but I'm still rather pleased with them considering I had almost no time to think (and got about 6-7 shots, some of which are pretty useless).

As I was leaving, the horses in the pasture all came to the fence. I thought it was funny. Mental note: no matter how much you don't want to stop there, either stop, or don't expect to get a good picture. The vibration from a gravel road definitely does not improve the image's focus. They're still recognizable, though, so they got uploaded too. (I should know better. A road that vibrated the light bulb out of one of my brake lights is not going to balk at messing up a photograph taken from a car moving down it - especially since it was one-handed and quickly shot, due to the need to focus on driving. Dumb! The picture is better than it should be, given the conditions. This is not saying much, but still, it is....)

Hawk? Hawk?
