...that I have less than one week until the radio station I usually listen to for music (and traffic) starts the all-Christmas-music all-the-time round.

The first time they play that stupid Christmas Shoes song, I think I may just turn them off for the whole season. I like Christmas music, but I have never liked that one and I do not want to hear it now even more than then. It's stupid, it's sentimental, and it's stupidly sentimental in ways that hurt.

Maybe they'll be tired of it by now. Because it is stupid. But they weren't yet tired of it last year, so I doubt I'm so lucky.

Whups, sorry! The phrasing made it less than clear. That is the name - that's why I capitalized it.

If you want the lyrics, they're here (among many many other places). You'll be able to see why it hurts me to hear it now (having had to listen to it all through LAST year's holiday season).

But that aside, the premise is STUPID. It's horribly stupid, and it relies on in-your-face tear-jerkiness to get you crying in spite of being stupid. Which really makes me angry, especially as I sit there crying whilst picking apart the stupid.

although lately I haven't been listening to radio in the car at all. I live so close to work I don't need traffic info.

I bad traffic day is having to wait for the northbound and southbound train at the same time.

I have the same reaction to the Kenny G song that get insanely overplayed around New Year's. You get to a point where you're pissed off at the radio station, the artist, and yourself everytime it comes on because it makes you cry and you hate the freaking song!

Ohyeah. And this song is so, so stupid. If you stop and analyze the story it tells logically, it's implausibly stupid and the message it delivers is appalling (and not what they're trying to imply). Ugh.

Ok, thank you for being another soul out there that loathes that insipid song. Every time it came on last year, I would just go off about it...of course, my husband the sensitive social worker, actually was moved by it. Guess I'm just too cynical for that. blech.

...it's stupid. The kid's mother is dying, the kid is young enough to have hardly any money and to win money off strangers by looking pitiful, and he's out shopping alone? What the (expletive deleted) was his family thinking to let a young child go shopping alone at such a time?

And since when is the message of Christmas that a pair of shoes matters more than a DYING PARENT? Walk away from your family and go shopping, buying things, helping others buy things, THAT is the spirit of Christmas. Not family, not togetherness, not any sort of religion...crass consumerism. And it's so important a boy should wander alone and depend on strangers so his mama can have PRETTY SHOES...but not her son by her side. (and if he wasn't by her side, which might be uncomfortable, then surely he should be with family or a trusted family friend, not out wandering?) Also, since when does Jesus care what shoes someone's wearing? Not that kids don't have warped notions of God sometimes, but why on earth are they being reinforced by the adults?? O.o

Uh. Frankly, I think the parents in this song should be charged with child neglect, and the kid is (as many kids are) fairly clueless, consumeristic (love our society) and weak of heart.

It's STUPID. It's just STUPID.

*hearty applause* AMEN to that! That is what I went off about last year...like "shoes? If I'm dying, I want shoes? Cause we all know that if I go up to the pearly gates in crappy slippers, I am SO not getting in."

My personal fave holiday song is the hawaiian one (not going to attempt to spell it) that is in the Griswold's Christmas movie. Nothing like something THAT cheesy to get me in the mood. Well, that and Yukon Cornelius!

Mele Kalikimaka! I love that song. It's one of my favorites, although I think my very favorite is "Christmsa in the Northwest".

And I really like Snoopy's Christmas, but it's not really a contender for favorite.
