We had Easter dinner with Scott's Aunt Julia and Uncle John, in Camas, and family and friends they had invited. It was very pleasant. Good company, good conversation, good food. The ham took a little longer than planned but not much, and the glaze was incredibly good. Amusingly, the packaging and the internet disagreed about the cooking time, and the packaging was wrong and the internet was right. It was well worth the wait (which wasn't very long, really); it was tasty. They have a new dog, Maggie, who is terribly cute - she's a schnauser, though she's much saner than their other one (Bart) was as a pup.

Then home, where I am now doing a load of laundry so I can finish my packing. (I'd have done the laundry sooner, except I needed to wash something I planned to wear today to that dinner.)

I forgot, during my round-up of books, to list a key one: Janet Kagan's Hellspark. I have read and very enjoyed both her Mirabile and Uhura's Song in the past, but not bothered to see what else she had written. When she passed away, [livejournal.com profile] cadhla mentioned it, and also mentioned this book, so I got it and read it. I'm sorry I only found it now, and yet I'm also not sorry, because it gave me one last tale of hers to enjoy, to soften the sorrow of knowing she won't be writing any new ones. It's an enjoyable read. And I would have loved to see more stories about these people - a statement I can make about all three of her books. (When I say it of Uhura's Song, I don't mean the "main" characters, of course - I can read more stories about them, by others. I mean the characters that were her additions for the tale, and lovely ones.)

I've uploaded some pictures to Flickr, from the past couple weeks. Click on the images to see them larger:

Packing is basically done and I am ready to head out in the morning. (And some stuff that's been waiting to mail goes out this week - Scott will take it to the post office. I gotta stop putting stuff off, it works better when you do it!)

Lovely shots, especially that last one with the trees and clouds.

I absolutely adore Hellspark. (I even stole the name for a superhero character I played years and years ago.)

Kagan did write some short stories, too. The problem is that they've not (to my knowledge) been collected anywhere. I've got one anthology on my shelf that I bought just for her short story.

The short stories I have are in Whatdunits and More Whatdunits. At least, I think she has story in each anthology. She might only have a story in one of them, and I got the other hoping (or because I liked the editor or something).

Uhura's Song is one of my favorite Star Trek novels! I didn't know the author had written other things... I'll have to check those out. :D

And the sky shot is lovely.
