Okay, today has just become surreal and hysterically funny.

This morning, M. read a news story about a new virus. Part of its payload is to delete files (trying to get rid of your antivirus), so it sounded fairly nasty. I considered sending a warning to our people, and didn't, because the message was so amazingly stupid I figured we were safe.

Well. Color me stupid. So far, known to have been infected by the virus: a VP, a programmer, some person I don't know their place in the org, and ONE OR MORE PEOPLE who use our SUPPORT email. Yes, the people who are supposed to send us virus warnings.

*sigh* By the way, if you're curious about the little monster, the writeup is here.

Read it, and see why I thought no one would run it. Geesh.

Update: They've removed the text. The subject is HI, attachment is "gone.scr", and the text is:

How are you ?
When I saw this screen saver, I immediately thought about you
I am in a harry, I promise you will love it!

Mmmhmm.

I was in too much of a harry to read it thoroughly ;)

It's the same here. One of our department help desk folks opened it, and spread it to the whole organization. Messed up stuff...

"to read it thoroughly", where "it" is the Symantec link you posted...

(I was standing next to the Mail Administrator when the first message came in, I've got an alibi ;) )
