IBM looks a lot better today. Either I just got a complete moron when I got the salesguy, or the supervisors are good at covering for general stupidity.
I'm still not completely happy...this isn't the system I thought I was getting, and it can't be, and I was lied to by the guy who sold it to me.
But I'm a lot happier, anyway. They're doing their best to make it good. Specifically:
1) There's no upgrade that will work. They're having me return the upgrade license, and go buy XP professional.
2) This does void the warranty. The extra money I paid for three years of warranty will be refunded, and I will have the standard one year. (During which they will first try to troubleshoot by asking me to reinstall XP home, so.... *snort*)
3) Memory. Ironically, they can't take back the 128 that came in the computer. When I heard that, I figured I was getting a port replicator and having to buy 256. No, no...for my trouble, he is swapping me a free 256, one-to-one, for my free 128. All I have to do is swap it in.
Okay. I can deal with this. I'm not sure I'd have bought it if this is what I was told at the outset (I really wanted warranty coverage), but.... It's workable, and it will do what I need.
The "supervisor" of my sales guy didn't recognize his name, and thought maybe he was shuffled in from another department, until told I'd dealt with him again later about the same thing. Now thinks maybe he was a new hire. Sounds generally confused. Did not sound at all confused about the fact that he is going to go talk to the guy, however. *grins*
Hehehe. He also had to apologize, because he didn't check the order or listen to my voice mail closely enough, didn't realize "west coast", and called at 6:30 am. We weren't up yet, but the alarm had gone off, so it could've been a lot worse.
...on another note, Scott is sweet. He got me gift certificates for See's candy (they were having a sale of it at work), and he also got me the new Everquest expansion, Shadows of Luclin. I've mostly been ignoring new expansions, because I don't play enough to justify them, but he quite correctly assumed that I would really want the one with the cat-people. *grins* Okay, so I'm predictable sometimes. I'm happy being that way.
I haven't installed it yet, though. It took him something like an hour to run the full update and get in, so I just stared over his shoulder whilst he explored (and got killed in) the new areas. ;) I'll install it tonight or tomorrow, most likely.
I can do it at the same time as I'm prepping my new laptop for XP installation, I guess. (I need to save off a bunch of stuff first, that IBM puts on there, Just In Case. I could care less about most of the preinstalled programs, may have to retrieve drivers, but the data files telling me about my hardware had darned well better stay where I can find them.
