Yay, lucky me. Back in glasses. The current set of contacts are just TOO disorienting. They'll go blurred and refuse to settle back for as much as an hour. (I have astigmatism, so if the lens rotates - blurring. This is expected, but if the lens is right, a couple blinks or a bit of point-staring should bring them back to home. The blurring is not nearly as bad as my vision without correction, but it is sufficient to make reading extremely awkward. I can do it, but I'm back to the pattern-recognition I used to use when I was very little and hadn't gotten glasses yet...)
Anyway, they irritate my eyes, too. The doctor today said that she was going to order them with a tighter curve, that they looked like they were too loose for my eyes. It would explain the 'poking' on my lower lid, the easy movement, the blurring, very well. So hopefully the new set (5 working day,s but with the holidays, she said to guess it at a week and a half - they'll call) will do better.
I've got my glasses on for now. I still have the "two week" ones, which haven't been used so heavily I couldn't go back to them if I wanted to, but using them for a week and a half might not be best. I think I'll just give my eyes a rest for now. Aie.
By the way? The suckiest thing about all this is - this eye doctor is in the mall. Okay. It's Christmas Eve. You do the math. I got in okay (simply by bowing to the inevitable and parking in the back of beyond - some of the people whom I saw circling were still circling as I went in the blasted door!), but on the way out, getting to the freeway, it took forever. Which was still better than trying to make a left turn would have been, ack. Made it all rights, I did. Wise move, I think.
Oh, by the way? Normally I hate Salvation Army bell ringers. Don't get me wrong: I applaud the idea of charity. It's the bells I hate. The things are too bloody loud, they're physically painful, and if you're lucky you have to go right by them outside. If you're unlucky, they've been allowed to set up in a lobby-like area between the doors and you have to go right by them there and it echoes like hell.
I hate those bells. They are physically painful. Bell ringers look so sour when I go past with my fingers in my ears, but I imagine I look even more sour. After all, I have a choice between being caused PAIN or not getting what I want. (If it's not critical, I will pick "not getting what I want" every time. Obviously any store that tolerates those nuisances, and particularly lets them set up inside, doesn't want my business.)
It's the bells. You want proof positive? Today I gave what little spare change I had on me to a bell ringer. Because she had taken the standard-issue break-your-eardrums bell from the pits of hell and was tinking it gently back and forth. From 100 feet away, she was not only not seasonal and cheery, she was not audible. At about 30 feet you could just hear her. Up close, it was obtrusive (repetetive jingling bells are, after all), but it was not painful. I wanted to thank her for it, and could think of no way to do so that would not involve insulting all her fellow bell-ringers, which I didn't imagine would brighten her Christmas Eve any. So I gave her a cheery smile that is usually never in evidence around the bell-ringers, tinged perhaps with a touch too much relief, and I put what money I could dig out in her bucket, and I wished her a Merry Christmas.
Now why can't the rest of them learn from that example?
