Our office building holds "tenant appreciation day" once a year, which means we get a free lunch. (Frankly, I'd rather get my share of the cost of my free lunch, but that's just 'cause I'm boring and lazy I guess.)

This year's theme was carnival. Which is to say we had parts of a carnival set up in the parking lot. Hot dogs, hamburgers, corn dogs, curly fries, potato salad, soda - cotton candy, caramel corn, shaved ice, elephant ears.

Games involving tossing hoops over poles, or rubber chickens into buckets, were set up. There was a balloon-twisting clown and a face painter.

All of it free. See why I want my percentage of the cost? :P Meanwhile, the food was the usual carnival stuff - greasy. I ate half my fries and corn dog, the fruit salad was awful, and I grabbed cotton candy and caramel corn for later. I seriously debated the shaved ice, but the truth is I already felt bloated and nasty, and that stuff doesn't keep for later.

Yay, free food. At least it wasn't the amazing bento special (no, that's not what they called it), with vastly over-spiced (nauseating) shredded chicken over rice. As your only option. That was two years ago, and I'm not sure I've forgiven them yet. :)

Still at work. My own choice, though; I took a longer lunch than normal, but that's not why (I normally take a half hour lunch; I took a 45 minute lunch; I'm normally here at least 9 hours; not exactly a big deal). Mostly, I'm still here because someone just finished a change that I would really like to get to a client in the build that I am putting in tonight.

Which means I'm waiting for it to be checked in, so I can do the build, so the client can be happier.

Y'know, there are times I feel good about staying a bit later. I still want to go home - but I feel good about the fact that that isn't ruling my decisions.

The build is almost done. Another 5-10 and I can head out, make a quick stop at the grocery store, and be home....

...and know I got an extra fix in for the client tonight, instead of having to let it wait 'til tomorrow night. (They're in the testing and changes phase, so daily or every-other-day builds are the norm here.)
