The training class I thought was "all next week" (we all did) runs only Monday thru Thursday. Oopsy. So trying to recompact my schedule to fit in four days, which I think it now does. But today--

--today is a day off, and a lovely one at that. I slept until 8. I'll head out later to meet a friend, and that's going to be cool. The whole day is going to be cool, one way or another. I left work without the cell phone, and I've every intent of being unreachable, and my team has stated they'll try not to try to reach me.

We all understand stress. It's nice when that means we work to alleviate it. And after a very frustrating session with phone technical support, my digital voice recorder can in fact transfer files to my computer. Yay, new toy that works.

Of course, first the support-desk twidget kept forgetting it was not a camera, and talking about my "camera". No, digital voice recorder, sir. Then he told me to right-click on a dll file and select install, and when I pointed out there was no "install" option for dll files, he told me to right-click the folder it was in and select "install". When I took pity on him and pointed out that inf files are used in Windows for such things, and there was an inf file in the folder, should I use it, he first reacted like I hadn't said it. Then he said, "Yes, yes, double-click it to install."

Double-clicking an inf file opens it in notepad, last I checked. I didn't even try to explain it, just right-clicked, selected install, and moved on.

That, plus one more step, did fix the problem. But, um.... Come on, guys. Improve the cheat-sheets. :P

But it works! It works. And my day will be good.

Okay, so work called just before I left earlier. Feh. All the same, I got to meet the friend I was going to meet for lunch and hanging out, and we had lunch and hung out.

It was really, really, really cool to meet her and get to spend time with her - the conversation wandered all over the map, and was quite enjoyable. We talked about work, we talked about conventions, we talked about kids, we talked about gaming (that rather a lot, since we both play on the same MUSH), we talked about all sorts of things.

It just really rocked. I had a great time. And if I have to be more coherent 'bout it than that...sorry. :)
