The shelving is going well. The hardcover fiction's in place; the poetry and books on writing are up. This leaves mythology, books on computers, and Other Nonfiction to deal with, mostly. They'll probably end up on shelves in the closet, but maybe not. We're doing better for space than I thought we would, which is nice.

Other than that, I've read a bit (imagine that...), and updated Windows. Pain in the backside downloads...! On the other hand, a few things that were vulnerable aren't and - more immediately gratifying - one thing that was crashing, isn't.

Unfortunately, that leaves the yard. I've avoided it for about as long as I dare, so I'm about to go out there and return the area dug (I've decided not to extend it yet) and border it. Might as well get the whole matter started, anyway.

Then, off for shopping. Such fun. Well, this will be, really. I'm going to sell back a bunch of books to Powell's Beaverton (I'm hoping they'll take half or more of them - it would be nice--) and pick up a bunch (we're definitely missing chunks of series, unless they've hidden out successfully, which is also possible - but in some cases I know we never owned them, as well). Then a stop at Home Depot to pick up a few things for the back yard, and order two more shelf kits.

We're not going to use them now. But if I get them now, we have the option of reducing the shelves to all paperback at some point in the future, even if they stop making those units in that color. Which seems unlikely, I admit, but it makes me feel better. I may also try to get a shelving unit for under the window.

Probably not, though. What I really need to do is clean out the closet and get the cheap push-together shelves hauled upstairs and placed in there. It seems to be wide enough for one unit on the left side (right side has built-in shelving that's not, unfortunately, the shape or size I would've wanted).

Anyway, I think I'm mostly doing this to put off the digging, so...time I went and did that.

Went to Powell's. Sold back some books (not as many as I'd hoped, about as many as I'd expected, drat it), and they were able to cover the books I needed to get (that we wanted in our collection, but didn't have). Except one, but that was a case of "they don't have it". The money from sell-back would not have covered the full price, most likely, but I do have a little credit left over. If, say, I can find a copy of it, or something else I want.

The fiction hardcover is shelved; so is the poetry, and the books on writing. It's really a library in there now. The back yard hasn't made a lot of progress, but I stopped at Home Depot on the way back, ordered the two additional shelf kits, and got a few extras for the back yard work. Piecemeal, this is, but I have abandoned the 'using rocks for all borders' idea and bought some cliched, short border devices. Mostly, I want to be able to tell where my plans begin and end; I will probably ditch these annoying things once I'm able to better decorate the results. Which will probably not be this year.

Then a stop at Fred Meyer's, in Tualatin. Who no longer carry my milk in the right size (it's only guaranteed good for seven days after you open it; a half-gallon is a bit excessive, thankyouverymuch, and I do want my skim). This annoyed me sufficiently that I stalked out, even though they had a number of plants I wanted.

Yeah, so I'm a bit snappish in my reactions. I'll try the nursery. If they don't have it, or their prices make me blanch, or they're closed, I'll try Lowe's. Or the garden store by WinCo foods. Or the Fred Meyer in Tigard, as a last resort. Those stores have gone steadily downhill since the chain was bought out; they used to be excellent, now they're passable but not dependable. I'm quite annoyed by that, as they really were a one-stop shopping place for a long while. Now they only are if the "stop" you are referring to is the moment of shock and annoyance before you head back out the door, trying to find whatever it is they've stopped carrying this week.

The one in Tualatin is particularly bad. They ditched a lot of things during their remodelling, only they seem to have forgotten to fix that in several cases.

I have, however, the bare minimum of what I needed. And the Annoying Place has none of my money. So.
