First, a few notes from this morning, written up while my computer was busy.

Notes from this morning )

I left work a bit after 4. Of course, everything was busy from there on out, and I did acquire more tasks, including a code review. The main task I thought would take most of my day never got started and will now take most of tomorrow, but, all the documentation from this morning's meeting got done so that is not bad. The new guy who starts on Monday came by to pick up his packet.

Errands after work went well. Car has gas (and I'm tracking mileage so I can see where the MPG is - I should be getting almost highway levels, in theory). I stopped by Fry's and checked new ways to get this stupid rain-checked headset - that is a writeup that's a post all in itself - I knew I wouldn't be likely to get it today and the news wasn't all bad, but good grief. Also got floor mats for the car. Deposited my expense check (feeling much better about having to pay for that trip in my current credit card bill cycle now that I have the company's money for the company's expense!), and picked up several library books (journalling, data warehouses, fiction).

I really should go do some yard work but my head is sinus headachy. This isn't yardwork-encouraging but I will probably try to go out in an hour or so when the sun is further down and I have sat for a little bit to settle.

So I got an hour or so in, in the yard. Whoopity-whatever. It didn't make much of a dent but it is something, anyway. Also got some reading done. Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] utsuri who pointed out that Nina Kiriki Hoffman has a new book (A Fistful of Sky) out. My library had it! I have a lot left to read but, as usual, it isn't enough. I wish this woman could write more faster and still have the good quality. :)

Sneezing now. Yardwork sucks. Allergies suck worse. May have to go back to the doctor, change allergy medicines. Claritin is not cutting it through yardwork....

Glad to see they finally posted what's going on with LJ. Sorry that, as usual, it was done backward. If they knew they were putting new code (memcache) live that could bobble, why the heck does the status page (when they think things are fine) say "Things are fine as of the posting of this message. New code is being added regarding blah; problems are not expected but could occur." or the like? Or something? Otherwise it looks like they are fat, dumb, happy and ignorant. At least that message would give me an idea of what was going on, too, and understanding does tend to calm me.

Without an explanation, the site just sucked rocks. Which I suppose it did anyway. Hopefully they've gotten the worst of it sorted out but I have no faith right now. The worst part is that I can do this to my customers in far more mission-critical apps and I really do know that sometimes These Things Happen. I just don't like it when they do, especially if no one on the boat has bothered to mention they were turning the motor on before it explodes.

Yes, I am babbling again. I have a sinus/tired headache and I shall probably get a nice hot shower or bath, then go to bed a bit early. I need better allergy medicine. Or to get someone to landscape my back yard for me into something easily maintained. Lovely dream, but I'm not quite desperate enough to pay for that yet....
