First, a few notes from this morning, written up while my computer was busy.
8:15 am
It was glorious this morning. I stirred around 5:30, when the gathering light woke me, glanced at the clock, and dozed again. From 5:50 till the alarm went off at six, I just lay there quietly contemplating, having woken again. It was beautiful (if somewhat blurry without my contacts). Lovely colors.
Once I did get up, the morning went almost smoothly, though I made the mistake of trying to check LiveJournal - only a mistake because it was having troubles. I saw the first page, and then nothing else (including comments I wanted to read and posts I wanted to respond to) would load. Somehow it seems like the status page always says things are fine when experience says that they are in the toilet.... That was the case this morning. But it didn't really matter; I dropped myself an email to remind me to check in the evening and headed for work.
Scott transfers title of the totalled car to the insurance agency today (and while checking the mileage on it, picks up the garage door opener we left in, hopefully). I signed the piece of paper ahead of time, since I won't be there. The drive into work in the new car was pleasant. There's more road noise than in the Taurus, which Scott had commented on, but I actually don't mind it. There's not as much as the older Saturns, I don't think, though I haven't compared.
Then to work, where I'm now waiting on a compile to run. I have so far five tasks today, one of which is a two hour meeting, one of which is greeting a new employee (who is coming in to pick up his packet but does not start until next week). Of the other three, two are builds/moving software out to sites but should only take perhaps a half hour each. So that's two and a half hours of the day accounted for. The fifth is a code review and will probably eat much of the rest of the day...along with the inevitable email. So hopefully I will not get any new, big tasks. I figure I will probably be asked to write up something from today's meeting, which is a new, moderately big task, but that is why I said the code review would be over "the next several days".
One of my coworkers emailed a bunch of us about rescheduling a meeting to a different time on "Tuesday,June 4". Being a brat, I replied, "Can we have this meeting on June 3 instead? June 4 doesn't seem to be a Tuesday again until 2013, which seems awfully long to wait....." What can I say, I'm bad. Apparently we will be meeting this year, however. ;)
It's almost time for the level 1 pager to be handed to me. After work today, I have to (before pager coverage strikes!) stop at Les Schwab (tire check on the new car, I think they're just fine but I do want to be sure), gas the car, stop at the library to get my books and return one, and possibly stop at Fry's if they have that hands-free headset in. Fortunately, I got in just a bit after 7, so I'll have worked plenty by 4 and I should be able to get most of those done by 5:30 (when coverage kicks in). Fry's and the library are close enough to home (and quick enough errands) that I can do them while on call. Gassing the car would be, except I'd rather not pay Wilsonville's prices, it's cheaper up this way.
Now
I left work a bit after 4. Of course, everything was busy from there on out, and I did acquire more tasks, including a code review. The main task I thought would take most of my day never got started and will now take most of tomorrow, but, all the documentation from this morning's meeting got done so that is not bad. The new guy who starts on Monday came by to pick up his packet.
Errands after work went well. Car has gas (and I'm tracking mileage so I can see where the MPG is - I should be getting almost highway levels, in theory). I stopped by Fry's and checked new ways to get this stupid rain-checked headset - that is a writeup that's a post all in itself - I knew I wouldn't be likely to get it today and the news wasn't all bad, but good grief. Also got floor mats for the car. Deposited my expense check (feeling much better about having to pay for that trip in my current credit card bill cycle now that I have the company's money for the company's expense!), and picked up several library books (journalling, data warehouses, fiction).
I really should go do some yard work but my head is sinus headachy. This isn't yardwork-encouraging but I will probably try to go out in an hour or so when the sun is further down and I have sat for a little bit to settle.
