Not so shabby, really. Fiddled around and did not much, reread Trickster's Choice one last time (planning to return it, honest!). Had a scene this afternoon ... the scene itself was okay, the out-of-character exchanges left me rather irked, tho'. The wiz dropped some plotstuff on us, which was nifty, even if my character was sharply clueless about it.

I wanted to watch the lunar eclipse but clouds kept me from seeing the start of it. Somewhere in there they peeled back and as totality ended I could see the crescent moon. It's now maybe 75% visible, the shadow soft. Very pretty. I tried to get some pictures; none came out well but they did come out better than my previous attempts to photograph the moon. That's not saying much and I don't think I'll upload them.

Looking at it, though, is wonderful. In about twenty minutes, Scott and I go to have a late dinner with his parents, aunt, and uncle. I'm looking forward to it; I've never been to the place chosen and it's a bit more distant than I'd have picked, but it is supposed to be good and I have had all day to essentially be a bum, which helps.

No idea what tomorrow holds, but I'll find out. Hopefully I'll find out tonight.

...and as I was typing that, they called. Dinner was to be at 8, it is now 6:40, we would have left in 20 minutes, and they're changing where we're going to some place called "Big Lou's" that serves mostly ribs but does have some baked chicken. Baked chicken I can cope with. Ribs and anything barbecue is nasty - but they say the barbecue sauce is on the side.

If it's not, then I'll enjoy the company and be starving after. I think I'll put a granola bar in the car just in case. Oh, and the restaurant is now somewhere that's 15 minutes further away as far as driving. Meaning we're now just barely able to get there on time. They're still on the phone, so we can't just bolt this instant.

Ah. Apparently they decided it was "a bit too fancy to go to."

Have we mentioned I cope poorly with changes? Anyway, we're off now - hopefully this goes well. And the moon is still pretty.

Tonight was...umm. Well, the final upshot after I posted that ended up being a plan that we would just go to Scott's aunt and uncle's place, and would have dinner there; they would pick it up and bring it back since the restaurant they wanted was really in a big tent-like thing. Okay....

So we get there early (as the roads were quite clear, which isn't always the case even at that hour) and they were out getting food, so we sat there in our nice warm car. They arrive, whereupon we learn they brought food for us, but they ate in at the restaurant.

Frankly, if that were it, I'd've rather eaten at our house and then just gone up to hang out. The food was very barbecue even though the chicken didn't have sauce. Edible, but not anything I'd pay for, honestly, and it felt awkward to eat when everyone else already had.

Then we played Apples to Apples and talked, and that was fun. Tomorrow we're going to have breakfast at a pancake place after Scott's brother gets off work at 7:30 am (well, they are and I will show up if I'm awake...I am going to try but I don't know if I will be). Then it's not clear what the rest of the day is like until 5 when it is dinner up at his aunt and uncle's place. Guess we'll find out.

Ahem. Almost forgot to type this piece. On the way home, we were to the closest exit to our house (along that freeway) and Scott was still in the left lane. So I asked about this and he got over, took the exit, then said he preferred to take the freeway closer to town to avoid the backroads when he was tired, especially as he might encounter animals in the dark. (We can get closer to our house by continuing to I-5 and going south to some other exits, a matter of an extra 2-3 miles, which would then have us driving mostly through town.)

I said I wouldn't have asked him to get off there if I'd known that and he was welcome to ignore me if he thought I was being a twit, in the future, but also that I didn't think animals were that likely to be a problem.

I was envisioning cats and dogs. We had a Holstein step into the road less than a mile after that. Fortunately, it came up from the opposite side and there was another car coming (who had just come out of a curve, was slow, and stopped in time) so Scott had lots of warning and we stopped in plenty of time.

A few honks and she wandered back off the road; we could see another down there.

Um.

Thank you, universe, for the irony.

There is this: we were definitely more awake after that!
