It is morning, and Scott is ready to go out the door, and I soon must. Scott takes Drew to day care. Drew, having been handed to me for watching (and application of shoes) while Scott loaded his car, is right by me when Scott comes back.
"Hey, Drew! Daddy's ready to go. Do you want to go outside?"
"Outside!" And he stays near me, not going over to the gate where Scott is standing.
"Yes, outside. Can you go to Daddy so he can take you outside?"
"Mommy! Outside!" He comes to me and clings to me, tugging as if to make me stand. With a laugh, I do, walking over to Scott.
We do a three-way hug with kisses, Drew says "good-bye", I say "good-bye" and Drew...clings to me. "Mommy! Outside!"
"Drew...Mommy doesn't have shoes on yet. Mommy can't go outside. If you want to go outside, you have to go with Daddy."
Drew hesitates a beat, then performs a lunge at Scott, clinging to his shoulders as Scott scoops him up.
Ah, the fickle love of a toddler...is so sweet.
