Scott & I went out to visit my parents, as planned. (After getting the air conditioner to the neighbor, and the keys to the managers. We're out of the apartment. It felt odd to hand over those keys - it feels odd to realize that's not "our" apartment any more. Thank goodness, the house feels more like home, anyway. Just different.)

They do indeed have a new roof, and it looks absolutely gorgeous. The color they picked goes well with the paint now, and I can see what Dad means that it would go with many other colors. He had some photos of what the place looked like during the process - they were amusing, and I think it would be a bit disorienting to see your house look that - naked.

I also got to see the cats. Flower and Fraidy-Cat appear to have gone missing (I had to ask for FC's name, she went a while back I think), but Babe and Tips and Spot were still around, from the kittens, and of course Basta and Frodo. I didn't see any others during the visit, anyway.

I'd brought catnip bubble-blowing solution, just to see how they reacted to it. Answer: it's a funny-once. The first time the cat touches or is touched by a bubble and it goes pop, they panic and run away. Generally without exception. Thereafter, they mostly ignore the bubbles or warily back away from them. Babe did bat at them and pop a few for a while, but despite their being labelled as nontoxic, she appeared a bit unhappy after getting some in her mouth.

That pretty much killed my enthusiasm for the bubbles as cat-toys, although it reminded me how much fun bubble blowing solution can be, and some of the moments when they first encountered the things were awfully fun. Mom brought out a catnip leaf; Spot ate a quarter of it and Babe ate the rest, and she was a bit of a hellion for a little while. I got gnawed on; I petted them all and got purred at.

I got shed on. Even though I took my claritin this morning, my nose was running and I was definitely feeling the allergies heavily before I left. This sort of acute attack, though, is actually better than the ongoing things that trigger the sinuses to stop up. I'd rather have a runny nose than a headache.

We talked for a bit; and then we left. My allergies were still a problem all the way home, as expected - I was wearing rather a lot of cat fur - but they definitely eased up away from the cats. And once I got home? Change of clothes, all better. I'd intended to take a shower, but literally getting out of that shirt and getting five feet away from it was as though someone had just sort of magically ended the allergy attack.

Yay! And the cats were terribly cute, the drive was pretty, and I took photographs. Now to find out how many of them are good....
