I'm back from the fair. I had a good time, overall - there were a couple rides I wanted to go on and couldn't, since I was by myself and could neither leave behind nor carry my purse on them, but other than that I did okay. Even found someone else who wanted to go on the zipper but needed a second person (since it's 2-per-car mandatory)...the rest of her family was making warding gestures at her. Hehehe.

It was a good call to go this morning; today was not one of the cheap-tickets days (Ooo, a $2 difference - whee), plus, Sunday on a holiday weekend. Net result - the crowds were bearable. (Enough people for it to look busy, not enough to drive you nuts.) Wandered around a lot. The smells - animal barns, all the foods and sweets - triggered a lot of memories. Had a sno-cone (a quarter for extra syrup and you go from two squirts to six - now, that was nice). Tried to have a corn-dog and decided I wasn't hungry enough to eat fair food. *rueful* Wandered through the artisan's village.

There was a guy there - I grabbed his brochure, which notes his website - who does metal-work. Including wall hangings (in fact, mostly wall hangings). Including hanging steel fountains. They were so cool. I want one. Even at the price they were? I want one. Fortunately, my better side pointed out that before getting something such as that, I would have to figure out where it would go, make sure it would look good, and make sure that Scott didn't mind having a fountain hanging on a wall in our house.

I still want one. Either I'll get over it, I'll get one, or I'll stare at them a lot. *G*

When I left the fair, I stopped at the Oregon Garden on the way back. (Still 12 miles out of my way, but a lot closer than if I'd gone separately from home.) I've been meaning to visit it for a while, knowing it existed but not having gone.

It's lovely, but much of it's too structured and normal gardenish for me - and of course, it's still under construction, so other parts just aren't done...which I knew, so no complaints there. I enjoyed a lot of it. I didn't see either the "Rediscovery Forest" or the Wetlands - I turned the wrong way and, frankly, by the time I walked the Oak Grove Trail, my feet were already grouchy. I can only inflict so much.

But I think I might have to go back another day, and take along my camera as well. (I hadn't intended to go originally, and a camera at the fair would have been even more hindering than my purse was....)

And now I'm back. Back, and tired, and my feet are protesting that I've been on them for five hours, and I'm thirsty. I may nap. I may not.

But I had a good time.

Wheeeee! When Justin and I went to the carnival, we went on aaaaaalllll the rides. (well, except for the one where it's a hamster wheel and you stand at the edge and are strapped in. I've heard Too Many Stories about death and mutilation from that particular ride, and refused to let Justin get anywhere near it).

The zipper is FUN. Most rides I locked my purse between my feet--my big problem was my cane. Usually I left it hooked to the fence, but sometimes the ride operator took it. The Fire Ball....the one-loop rollercoaster, essentially? The operator kindly kept my purse AND my glasses on his person. V. nice of him.

Ooooooo, that guy's stuff is NICE!
