Which is odd. It was colder last time here than it is now. I like it, and everyone local seems to like it too - it was 29 degrees when R got in, but the following day, I arrived to this warm spell. It's supposed to break the day after we leave, too, according to the weather.

But it feels odd. Unnatural, surreal - it's warm and rather humid/wet, and it feels like you're in the lull before a famous storm, like some warm wind has pushed in (what's that called again?) and is sheltering you from the weather, and when it breaks, a lot of things will die in the cold that follows.

That's not what the weather report says, so I guess it's just unseasonably warm, but it feels that way. As if you're waiting for it to crash down on the other side in counterpoint to what it's given you so far.

Another coworker is here today, setting stuff up - J. Just got him into the room he needs and gave him a very basic building orientation. B. will be here later, but he's been here before. And I think someone else is supposed to show up, but, I am not 100% sure of that. None of these are on our team - there's training for another product, starting Tuesday, and they're preparing for that. It's just that J needed someone to show him where things were since this is his first visit here.

So far, so good. So far, things are getting done. And I got frustrated yesterday and did the obligatory inbox-scrub, wherein I ripped my unread messages from 100+ down to 15, and those in the "Pending Action" folder, so my inbox is once more less than a screen long. It makes it less likely I'll lose things in the swamping, after all.

Complained to the hotel. For all that it's unseasonably warm, my room still manages to be chilly. Not unbearably so, but uncomfortably so. I turned the heat on last night on maximum and high fan, and after less than 30 seconds, I think less than 15, it shut off again. Leaving the room, and me, still cold. I have a burnt-out light bulb, and somewhere in the back of my brain, the thought to write an essay on how not to design a hotel bathroom is growing.

I'm staying at a Marriot hotel. So far, it's proving inferior to its cheaper cousin, the Fairfield, albeit slightly closer to the site. Of course, the project manager put us in it in case the weather turns bad: the commute from the Fairfield is apparently nasty in bad weather, plus, the Marriott has a restaurant if things got really ugly.

(I can tell the project manager is not used to snow at all. I doubt that even if it weren't unseasonably warm, things would have gotten ugly enough to merit the change at this time of year. I didn't argue it, because first she was adamant, and second, I thought a Marriott would be a nicer hotel. It's fancier, but the jury's out on 'nicer'. I miss my continental breakfast, and so far the extra amenities are sorta bombing, along with some of the standard features, as noted above.)

But, hey, I have a room that came with bottled water. Of course, if I drink it, they add a $4 charge to my bill. It's not that large a bottle of water. (I'd need a multi-gallon container before I'd consider that worth it!)

It's not really unseasonable. We call it Indian Summer and it normally happens around this time of year. We don't usually get that cold snap right before as we did this year, though. Now that was unseasonable.

Chinook?

Is that what you're thinking of? It's a spring thing, though, normally around February.

We had the same warm snap here. Was odd, but nice. Over now, though.

At least it's still rain, not that white stuff.
